How to Remove Bloatware from Tecno, Infinix and iTel Phones

Often times, bloatware is something you would want to instantly get rid of. If you have ever bought an Android phone on contract from a wireless provider, it is likely that you would have noticed apps that come preinstalled on your device. These apps are called bloatware, which many users do not want. The problem is that they are usually difficult, if not impossible, to uninstall.

Bloatware is software that is preinstalled on the device by mobile carriers. These apps are preinstalled mostly because many carriers have contracts with manufacturers to install them. In other words, you do not get a choice as to whether or not it is installed on your device. Luckily, there is something you can do about them. This article will guide you on how to remove that unwanted bloatware from your Tecno, Infinix and iTel device.

There are two common methods you can employ when trying to disable an unwanted app.

Method 1: Disable From App Settings

Before getting started, ensure you are certain that the particular app which is considered a bloatware is in fact useless to you. Although most of the apps are more often useless than useful, they may still pose a sort of good use to some phone users out there. After ascertaining that, you can go ahead to follow these instructions:

  • Make sure that your phone is running on its current default launcher. The default launcher for Infinix phones is XOS launcher while for Tecno phones, it is HiOS launcher.
  • Most of these applications can be found on your home screen or inside your app drawer. Examples of this app include:
    • Scooper App
    • Opera News App
    • Phoenix Browser
    • YoParty App
    • Carlcare
    • AHA Games
    • VSkit
    • XBoy App
    • Palmstore
    • XPark and many more.
  • If you happen to come across any of the apps above, all you have to do is press and hold the app icon until some options pop up on the screen. If that particular app can be uninstalled, you would see the uninstall option among the options that pops up, but if that particular app cannot be uninstalled, you would not see the uninstall option.

  • For those apps that have the uninstall option, you can simply uninstall the app straight away. However, for those that do not, it is a different process. Instead of an ‘uninstall’ option, you would see another option that says ‘application details’ from the list of options that pop up after pressing and holding the app icon on the screen.
  • Tap on ‘application details’ for apps that cannot be uninstalled, and from there you would be taken directly to the app’s info settings, which is in your phone’s settings app.
  • An alternative to pressing and holding the app icon is to go directly to settings, scroll down and select Apps from the list, and then find and tap on your unwanted application.
  • From there, you should see a ‘disable’ option, which will allow you to disable the app. Simply tap on it, and the app will be disabled.
  • After the app has been disabled, the app will cease to function on your phone, and you will also not see the app icon anywhere on your home page or app drawer.

NOTE: If you want to totally get rid of a preinstalled app, it is better to disable completely rather than force stop. When you force stop an app, you will still be able to see the app icon and receive notifications from the app.

Method 2: Deactivate Administrative Privileges

Sometimes, there are quite a few applications that hold device admin permission. This means that these apps cannot be disabled or uninstalled as long as they hold administrative privileges. Apps like app lock, authenticator, antivirus, etc., require administrative access.

Hence, if you have already granted permission, you will not be able to remove these apps until you revoke the permission. Here is the process you will follow in deactivating the device admin permission and uninstalling the app afterward:

Bloatware often constitutes a nuisance, first by running in your phone’s background even when you are not aware that they are doing so, thereby consuming a huge amount of your phone’s hardware resources like RAM and storage, and even consuming a small or large amount of your internet browsing data bundle for those that require an active internet connection to work.

Secondly, most of them may even push you to the edge by going further to send you unwanted notifications every now and then, thereby making your notifications tray so clogged up that useful notifications such as mails and text messages might end up getting lost in them. With these easy steps above, you are sure to rid your phone of those annoying apps, thereby leaving it bloatware-free and convenient to use.
