Huawei’s trendy Y series continues to dominate the market with its interesting features while still offering at an affordable price.

Huawei Y6P Design and Display

The Huawei Y6P is a decent smartphone that comes with just a simple-looking design. It’s not the best phone you’ll find when it comes to attractive design. At the rear panel of the phone is a plastic glossy finish that shines like a glass with a curved frame which makes it comfortable for single-hand grip.

The device comes in beautiful colors of Phantom Purple, Emerald Green, and Midnight Black. The vertically arranged triple camera on the rear top left corner of the phone looks great, with the fingerprint scanner beside it and Huawei’s branding logo slightly below.

All the phone controls like the power button and volume keys are housed in the top right corner as usual. Meanwhile, the Sim tray and microSD card slot are placed on the top left side, while the speaker grills, audio jack, and USB-C port are at the bottom of the phone. However, the Huawei Y6P can easily attract smudge and fingerprints, meaning you’ll need to use the provided silicone case if you want the rear of the phone to remain neat.

For its display, there’s a 6.3-inch IPS LCD screen with 720 × 1600 pixels resolution (HD). Also, there’s 278ppi pixel density, although they’re weak in contrast, but quite reasonable for a phone of this price. There are multiple screen options like Dark mode, e-book mode, and color temperature which you can activate from the settings.

Undoubtedly, the Huawei Y6P screen is good for watching movies and playing games, although it lacks flagship display features like refresh rate and AMOLED panel. However, the display brightness of the phone when on maximum settings is decent for outdoor use.

The Huawei Y6P comes with a triple camera arrangement on the rear featuring a 13-MP primary shooter, along with 5-MP ultra-wide lens, and a 2-MP depth sensor for bokeh effects. On the front, there’s an 8-MP selfie camera that’s hidden inside the teardrop notch.

The Huawei Y6P can capture more quality photos in daylight than lowlight settings. Also, photos are taken with enough details and natural colors, although you’ll notice some distortions when you zoom with the ultra-wide sensor. The phone struggles to take quality photos at night-time even while using the LED flash. This means that the Huawei Y6P is more of a better camera phone in daylight than nighttime.

For selfies, the 8-MP front camera captures good-looking photos with enough details and natural color reproduction. However, it faces the same challenge of not capturing better images at night just like the rear cameras.

Huawei’s camera app offers standard EMUI features for taking photos and allows the user to record up to 1080p videos with 4x zoom at 30fps.

Hardware Performance and Software

With an Helio P22 chipset and either 3GB or 4GB of RAM, the Huawei Y6P is not the best device for multitasking or gaming. Meanwhile, there are two storage options of 32GB and 64GB, alongside an option to extend the built-in storage through the dedicated SDcard slot. Also, there’s a PowerVR GE8320 that handles graphics duties.

The Huawei Y6P is not a gaming device but manages to play Asphalt 9 flawlessly. High-end graphics games like Call of Duty, PUGB, God of War, and the rest cannot play smoothly on the phone. Meanwhile, the limited number of games on Huawei’s App Store may not satisfy your hunger for games.

As with the Operating System, the Android 10 skin that’s paired with EMUI 10.1 works smoothly to deliver interesting tweaks that’ll amuse every user. However, the absence of Google Play Services makes the phone somehow mediocre. Fortunately, you’re getting interesting features like Dark mode, game and battery optimizations, and many others.

The Huawei Y6P features a 5000mAh battery capacity, alongside a 10W fast charger out of the box that’ll fully charge the phone from 0 to 100% within 3 hours. At this point, the Y6P charger is better than that of Tecno Spark 5 Pro (5000mAh) which takes 4 hours to fully charge.

The Huawei Y6P starts selling at ₦70,000 (roughly $184) for the 3GB of RAM with a 64GB storage variant. However, the 4GB of RAM with the same storage won’t be available depending on your location.
