For the operating system, both of these phones can run IOS 15. Although, there is a slight difference between the two. The iPhone 12 Pro Max runs IOS 14.7, while the iPhone 13 Pro Max runs a full IOS 15. Every year, Apple upgrades the processor/CPU (chipset) inside their actual iPhones, and it has been no different this year. This year, the iPhone 13 Pro Max has the brand new A15 Bionic and the iPhone 12 Pro Max has the A14 Bionic.

The dimension and body features for both phones remained practically the same. The extra grams added to iPhone 13 Pro Max was as a result of its slightly bigger battery size and new 120Hz display panel. The weight of the iPhone 13 Pro Max has also changed a little bit more. It weighs exactly 12 Grams higher than the iPhone 12 Pro Max.

The water resistance too is exactly the same in both of these phones. They are also both IP68, and can withstand up to 6 meters underwater for up to 30 minutes. This is, of course, referring to clear water alone, although it is likely to withstand a certain depth in other types of water as well.

The acronym ‘OLED’ stands for Organic Light-Emitting Diode. This is a display technology that offers high contrast, rich colours, wide viewing angle and several other features for action scenes. Instead of the conventional silicon and gallium (which LEDs are made of), OLEDs use carbon emitting layers.

OLED screens are found in TVS, smartphones, tablets and even watches. It is basically just a light source commonly used in electronics, and more widely popular in the markets today. The OLED display was first developed in the iPhone X and used in every premium (Pro Max) iPhone, all the way to the iPhone 12 Pro Max. After the iPhone 12 Pro Max, all the other new models took the OLED display feature.

For the actual screen size, the iPhone 12 Pro Max and iPhone 13 Pro Max are both identical as well. The actual size of both of these phones is exactly 6.68 inches. The same goes for the screen resolution, which is a 16:9 ratio, while the actual resolution is 2778 by 1284. The Pixel Per Inch for both iPhones remains 458. Pixel Per Inch typically refers to the measure of display resolution or pixel density of the screen.

There is also a difference in the Display Refresh Rate (Hz) for both phones. On the iPhone 12 Pro Max, the Display Refresh Rate is the standard 60 Hz, which has been somewhat the same from the start of the production of iPhones. The iPhone 13 Pro Max, however, has a Display Refresh Rate of 120 Hz Pro-Motion. This means that the iPhone 13 Pro Max display is able to draw new images several more times per second than its predecessors.

On cameras, things change a little bit here. With the redesigned lens and powerful autofocus system of iPhone 13 Pro Max, the new Ultra Wide camera is capable of focusing at just 2cm. This means that the camera can make even the tiniest details seem extremely epic.

This amazing new feature is called the Macro Photography, and it enhances camera quality to a whole new level. On the rear cameras, there is no difference. Both have a triple-lens setup, and are 12MP Wide, 12 MP Ultra Wide, 12MP Telephoto and can record up to 4k. But the iPhone 13 Pro Max can let in more light, and is much better for night-time photography. For the iPhone 12 Pro Max, only the Wide lens can be used for night-time photography. The other lenses are not really built for such.

There are also some additional rear camera features on the iPhone 13 Pro Max compared to the iPhone 12 Pro Max and that includes the Apple ProRes format. This allows you to record at a whole new, special type of level. Also, the iPhone 13 Pro Max has the brand new Cinematic feature while the iPhone 12 Pro Max does not.

On the front, things are very similar for both of these iPhones. They both have a 12MP camera, and they can both record up to 4k. But one thing to notice on the iPhone 13 Pro Max is that the actual notch that holds the face ID and the camera at the front, is actually 20 times smaller than that of the iPhone 12 Pro Max.

The RAM amount is exactly the same for both smartphones. They both have a 6GB RAM, and they actually are the same type of RAM as well, which means neither is actually faster or slower. In terms of storage amount, the iPhone 13 Pro Max has the same options as the iPhone 12 Pro Max. These are: 128GB, 256GB and 512GB.

However, the iPhone 13 Pro Max has a new addition to the storage options, which is the 1TB internal storage. The battery size has also undergone a huge improvement, compared to the iPhone 12 Pro Max. The iPhone 13 Pro Max has a 4352 mAh battery, while the iPhone 12 Pro Max has only got a 3687 mAh battery.

In terms of charging, there has been no difference this year in the iPhone 13 Pro Max compared to the iPhone 12 Pro Max. Both of these phones’ connection ports can charge using a 20w charger. The wireless MagSafe on the back can also be used as an alternative, and this will charge at 15w. The headphone hole remains missing in the iPhone 13 Pro Max, just like the iPhone 12 Pro Max. Either Bluetooth headphones or Airpods will have to be used in place of headphones. Both of the iPhones also have stereo speakers, and in fact, the speakers are almost identical.

The iPhone 12 was the first iPhone to bring in 5G connectivity, and it is the same this year with the iPhone 13 and the iPhone 13 Pro Max models, but you only get MMWave (the faster type of 5G) in the United States. So only iPhones sold in the USA will be able to use this technology, and come with this technology built in. For the Bluetooth, they both have a 5.0. No changes were made in that feature either.

With all these features, it is clear that there has been a giant leap in iPhone production, stemming an increase in performance, video and camera quality, battery life and overall smartphone performance.
