Snapchat has finally announced the launch of a web version for all desktops and personal computers after a decade of existence.
Snapchat was previously only available to mobile users and in certain regions, but Snapchat for web will allow users to send messages and make video calls directly from their desktop PCs, giving you another way to interact with your Snap connections.
What Is Snapchat For Web?
Web-based Snapchat combines many of the mobile app’s key features with a desktop user interface. Instead of holding up a phone, users can participate in video chats on their computer by using a webcam and microphone.
Messaging is also available, providing users with another way to communicate with Snapchat connections.
How Can I Use Snapchat For Web?
According to Snapchat, it is going to be very simple to use:

With more than 100 million Snapchatters using our voice and video calling each month on average, we’re excited to offer a new way for our community to keep conversations going on their computers, where they’re already working, learning, and browsing.”
Why Bring Snapchat To Desktop?
Snapchat is the most recent social media app to lack a desktop counterpart. Regular users have no desktop experience, which is unusual given that mobile-centric apps like Instagram and TikTok have desktop versions.
While some users may have expressed a desire to use Snapchat on desktop, the reason it is being rolled out now is most likely due to revenue.
People are increasingly working from home as technology advances, and Snapchat hopes that this feature will assist users by maximizing connections through the use of a separate web app.
The new web interface will include a variety of options, such as Chat Reactions and Chat Reply.
Your Snaps, like the regular app, will be deleted after 24 hours, with web views counting the same as in-app message opens. Snap will eventually incorporate Lenses into the format in order to facilitate more functionality.
It will most likely be an engaging and interesting way to expand Snap usage, but it is currently only available to paying Snapchat+ subscribers in the US, UK, and Canada.
Snapchat+, which Snap launched last month, is a ‘Twitter Blue’-style subscriber option that grants users access to a variety of new tools and in-development features for $3.99 (approximately N1,700) per month.
Most of them, like Twitter Blue, aren’t particularly appealing, but if Snap incorporates more elements like this into its subscription offering, it might become a more appealing proposition.
In any case, Snapchat on the web will eventually be available to all users, while those in other countries will have access to the option soon.
For the time being, it is only available on Chrome, but Snap is looking to add support for more web browsers, which will eventually allow for more opportunities to engage with friends via Snap.
