Tecno, one of the sub-brands of the Transsion group has launched the Camon 17 which is the direct successor to the Camon 16 launched last year. Undoubtedly, Tecno devices have always been known as budget smartphones with a great camera, decent performance, and amazing battery life.
The 6.6-inch Tecno Camon 17 comes with a lot of upgrades over its predecessor like a 720 × 1600 pixels resolution, 90Hz smooth refresh rate, and a Helio G85 chipset that improve the gaming performance of the device. Storage options in the phone include a dual choice of 4GB or 6GB of RAM and single 128GB built-in storage which can be expanded through SDcard.
The Tecno Camon 17 triple camera arrangement is headed by a 48-MP sensor on the rear and 16-MP upfront. There’s Google Android 11 as the OS and a massive 5000mAh battery capacity with 18W fast charging support. Tecno Camon 17: Design and Display
The Camon 17 design is what should be considered Tecno’s best design for years. This is a simple, yet attractive design that comes in amazing colors of Tranquil Green, Frost Silver, and Deep-sea colors. All these combine to give the phone a flagship-like look and feel. However, the phone’s rear panel is made up of plastic which is below the metallic frame or glass panel that’s found on most phones.

Fortunately, the Tecno Camon 17 is a tall device with a dimension of 164.5 x 76.5 x 8.95 mm. This is quite slimmer than the Camon 16 (9.2mm) and iTel P36 (8.9mm). The curved rear edges paved way for better comfortable handling of the phone.
On the back of the phone is a rectangularly arranged camera module on the top left corner, which is accompanied by a quad-LED flashlight. Meanwhile, the fingerprint sensor is slightly positioned besides the camera for easy accessibility with the index finger.
The Tecno Camon 17 features a complete port set-up of a USB-C port and headphone jack which are located at the bottom of the device and are accompanied by the loudspeaker. The power button and volume keys are perfectly positioned on the upper right side of the phone, while the microSD card tray and SIM card are on the opposite side.

As with the display, there’s a large size 6.6-inch IPS LCD that shows at 720 × 1600 pixels resolution. Fortunately, the Camon 17 features a 90Hz refresh rate which will make swiping through photos, browsing the web, or playing games smoother than it was on the Camon 16. Also, the phone’s display is slightly curved at the edges that gave it a flagship aesthetics and paved way for better device handling.

The Tecno Camon 17 features triple rear cameras consisting of a 48-MP primary shooter, along with a QVGA depth shooter, and a dedicated AI lens. On the front side, the dot-hole punch houses the 13-MP selfie camera. Meanwhile, there are plenty of camera features and tweaks to play around with like Portrait mode, Night mode, Short video, Beauty mode, and many others.
However, the Camon 17 camera is not the best you can find and we advise you to shy away if you’re buying it as a camera device.

The Tecno Camon 17 has a MediaTek Helio G85 as its chipset, along with an octa-core CPU clocked at 2.0GHz, and Mali-G52 GPU. Fortunately, there’s dual RAM options of 4GB and 6GB and single storage option of 128GB. However, you can choose to upgrade the storage capacity up to 256GB via SDcard.
Upon powering up, the device takes less time than other Tecno smartphones to fully boot. Moving between apps or multitasking was smooth as expected and we didn’t experience any lag issue. Also, playing high-end games like PUGB, Asphalt 9, or COD was seamless, though at the lowest graphics settings.
Running the device is the latest Android 11 and HiOS 7.6 overlay. The device comes pre-installed with multiple apps like PalmPay, Facebook, Palmcredit, Duo, and many others. Fortunately, there are various settings and tweaks you can easily customize to suit your taste.

Powering the device is a massive 5000mAh battery cell that comes along with an 18W fast charger. This can comfortably power the device from 0 to 100% in just 3 hours. The Camon 17 can easily last for 3 days if you’re an average user.
