The phone features a shiny curved glass at the rear, a great metallic frame at the sides, and a quality 90Hz screen upfront. Undoubtedly, Xiaomi is one of the best brands when it comes to design and display, and its Mi series remains the best to date.
Although the Xiaomi Mi 10 5G has been replaced by newer models like Mi 10T and Mi 11, it still remains one of the best Xiaomi smartphones. Xiaomi’s line of products is primarily categorized into two – the Redmi for its mid-range devices and the Mi series as flagship smartphones.
Meanwhile, the Xiaomi Mi 10 camera is quite great, given its price tag. The Mi 10 features a 108MP sensor as its main performer and it does a great job to be compared to flagship devices like Huawei P40 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S20. Design
Undoubtedly, the Xiaomi Mi 10 5G is a great-looking phone everyone will love to have. The front panel features an all-screen Gorilla Glass 5 display, slightly curved into the metal frame, and then rounds off perfectly to the curved glass back.
On the back, the Mi 10’s rear cameras protrude out from the uninterrupted back panel. Otherwise, there’s nothing wrong with the phone’s design apart from the fingerprints that’ll easily cover the phone after few months of use. However, you can use the provided silicone case that’s quite reliable to make the phone last longer. At 208g, this is quite heavy despite having an average battery capacity. Meanwhile, the Xiaomi Mi 10 5G weighs less than the iPhone 11 Pro Max (226g).
The volume rockers and power button are positioned on the right side, while on the base, there’s a USB-C port and an IR blaster on top. Unfortunately, there’s no 3.5mm headphone jack, meaning you’ll have to rely on wireless headphones or earpods to listen to audio privately.
The Xiaomi Mi 10 5G is a pretty large device featuring a 6.67-inch Super AMOLED display, alongside 1080 × 2340 resolutions. This is the same screen specs of the Motorola Edge but features a less dramatic curve. However, the Mi 10 has a 386 pixel-per-inch (PPI) clarity, ranking above the Apple iPhone 11.
Being a Super AMOLED screen, colors are great with enough black, and depth is abundant, whether when playing games, watching videos, or just swiping through the phone’s interface. Fortunately, it has a max brightness level of 500nits, putting it slightly below the OnePlus 8 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S20.
Camera
Xiaomi introduced Samsung’s 108MP sensor on the Mi Note 10 and it was found also on the Mi 10 5G and Redmi Note 10 Pro. This huge sensor has since been used on most Samsung flagship smartphones like Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G and Motorola Edge Plus.
However, the interesting part of the Mi 10’s 108MP sensor is that this is the first time we’re seeing it without a telephoto lens. Instead, Xiaomi relied on the big sensor, thereby making digital zoom a viable option. However, in bright conditions, it does well in bringing out perfect 2× zoom photos. Contrary, in low light, zooming is not encourageable at all.
The Xiaomi Mi 10 5G camera app features many modes such as night mode, portrait mode, pro mode, and 108MP photo mode that comfortably delivers full resolution images that look great in well-lighted conditions. Undoubtedly, the Mi 10 is a great camera phone with huge depth and dynamic range.
However, the 13-MP ultra-wide camera performs below expectations as a result of no autofocus. However, you can easily shoot pro mode photos with it, but it’ll be at its best when taken in well-lit conditions.
When it comes to the front camera, the 20-MP sensor along with the 108-MP primary shooter is the main highlight of the Mi 10’s camera, delivering great results across photo and video in well-lighted environments.
Specs, Performance, and Software
The Xiaomi Mi 10 has a top-tier Snapdragon 865 chipset that’s available in a couple of 8GB and 12GB of RAM. That said, there are also dual storage options of 128GB and 256GB, but the two higher-end variants are not yet available in Nigeria unless you’re ready to order from international online stores.
As for multitasking and gaming, you won’t experience any problem and with high-end flagship power and a gorgeous display, it’ll be a dream come true on the Mi 10.
Xiaomi’s MIUI 11 interface is great, but with many complaints. On the positive side, it’s stable and clean with a second space option. However, it has many shortcomings like when apps install in the background, the UI will stop any activity you’re doing and require you to perform an anti-virus scan. Meanwhile, the app support is great, and with a lot of Google Play Services, it gives you great advantages over Huawei smartphones.

The Xiaomi Mi 10 5G has an average battery life of 4,780mAh which is very generous when you’re an average user. Fortunately, even when the screen is switched to 90Hz, you’re getting a full day out of it, but you can decide to remain in the default 60Hz if you want very lasting battery life.
The 30W fast charger fully powers the phone from empty in just 70 minutes. Fortunately, the Xiaomi Mi 10 5G supports wireless charging at up to 30W and reverse wireless charging at 5W.
