Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro Review: Full Specifications and Price in Nigeria

The Redmi series is Xiaomi’s affordable phone brand, but this lineup always comes at relatively low prices, they bring impressive features to the party too, and the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro is the best example of this. Xiaomi presented the Redmi Note 8 Pro as a 100% gaming phone. From its processor and graphics, you’ll discover that this smartphone was specifically built for gamers in the house.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro is the company’s highest-end Redmi Note 8 series, although only but few phones beyond the user interface. Amazingly, the Redmi Note 8 Pro despite being more advanced than most Xiaomi phones and other brands too, the phone is still very affordable. Meanwhile, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro has a collection of amazing features you won’t expect in a phone of this price segment. There’s a Full HD+ display, a 64-MP main camera assisted with three other snappers, a decent chipset, and a huge battery capacity.

When compared to the Note 8, the Redmi Note 8 Pro was able to correct the few glitches if not entirely everything. A drastic change to glass back is one of them. So the phone has lots of amazing specs you wouldn’t expect given its price tag, but does that make it the best in the market? Read on and see our full review and verdict about this Xiaomi gaming device.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro: Design and Aesthetics

The Redmi Note 8 Pro has a similar design to Realme X2 Pro, so if you’ve seen that phone you have basically seen this one. Interestingly, the back panel is glass which is rarely found on this price tag where most of its competitors have plastic or aluminum panels. The Note 8 Pro is a fairly heavy phone, making it thick weighing 200g and 161.4 x 76.4 x 8.8 mm dimensions. Fortunately, the phone maintains a 91.4% screen-to-body ratio which makes it easy for single hand device operation.

The Redmi Note 8 Pro sports a very unique body design and quality. The front and rear panel is protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 along with 3D curved glass around the edges. In between is a glossy frame. Also, you’ll easily notice the 3D curved glass at the back. When you considered the material used to construct the Redmi Note 8 Pro, there’s no need to remind you that high care is needed to handle this phone.

On the rear panel is a vertically arranged camera bump in the top center, one which hosts the fingerprint sensor (you can mistake it for one of the lenses at first glance). Also, there’s another one on the side, alongside a LED flash.

At the top of the phone are a microphone and IR blaster. Meanwhile, a power button and volume rocker are well positioned on the top-right edge of the device, while on the opposite side is home to SIM card and microSD card slot. On the bottom are a 3.5mm headphone jack and USB-C port.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro: Display

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro is rather chunky, having a 6.53-inches IPS display which is broken up by a teardrop notch upfront. This phone has a 1080 × 2340 pixels resolution, which is the best display tech we’d expect on a smartphone of this price tag. While a big display is good for watching videos, playing games, social media, and more. Unfortunately, the phone is arguably too big for some users, making them having trouble while reaching the fingerprint scanner.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro display has a 500 nits brightness with a 1500:1 contrast ratio and reaching up to 84% NTSC. Amazingly, the display temperature adjustment is great and supports HDR. When it comes to rating, the phone’s display clocked 256 ranks adjustable reading mode certified by TUV Rheinland.

The Redmi Note 8 Pro display is rich in colors, having wide viewing angles added more to its quality. Interestingly, you can choose to switch between three display modes such as; standard mode, sunshine mode, and night mode. Amazingly, the overall display quality of the Redmi Note 8 Pro is very impressive, making it the best among its competitors.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro: Camera Review

One of the big selling points of the Redmi Note 8 Pro is its cameras. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro sports a 64-MP main shooter which is supported by an 8-MP ultra-wide lens, 2-MP macro lens, and another 2-MP depth sensor.

The 64-MP primary camera takes great photos, especially in a well-lit environment. If you’re a fan that likes taking photos in natural settings, or outdoor environment, the Redmi Note 8 Pro could be a really great tool for you. Unfortunately, low light shooting (and night-mode) takes pretty shots that are quite noisy and lacks details.

The ultra-wide sensor just like its name suggests takes very wide pictures, thanks to its f/2.2 aperture. Pictures look great and reasonable but we experienced a little distortion at the edges of the images. This is unlike most smartphones of this range that are equipped with built-in distortion-canceling software.

As it’s the normal tradition with mid-range phones, the 2-MP sensors macro and depth-sensing cameras don’t seem to be super-useful. Macro pictures are pretty low-quality but are fairly bright. However, we didn’t notice the impact of the depth-sensor on picture quality when taking photos with it.

On the front is a 20-MP selfie camera which is pretty good for a budget smartphone. Earlier, we doubt seeing great quality photos from this sensor but the phone’s camera cleared out doubts. If you’re a selfie lover, this could be the best phone for you especially when on a budget.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro: Hardware Performance and Software

Inside the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro is a powerful MediaTek Helio G90T chipset working alongside Mali G76 MC4 to deliver amazing gaming performance. When it comes to storage configurations, the Redmi Note 8 Pro is equipped with a single 6GB RAM and either 64 GB or 128GB of built-in storage.

Xiaomi integrated a Liquid cool technology on the Redmi Note 8 Pro that helps to prevent phone overheating especially when running RAM hungry apps or playing high-end games.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro runs Android 9 Pie out of the box but can be upgraded to Android 10, with Xiaomi’s MIUI 12 interface on top. This software despite being outdated still has a lot to offer. However, it’s good to know that there are full bloatware unnecessary apps that you can choose to delete straight away like Opera Mini, a web browser app that’s redundant when you have Google Chrome.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro: Battery Capacity

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro come equipped with a massive 4500mAh non-removable battery cell that supports up to 10 hours of active gaming time. It takes about 2hours to charge from 0% – 100%. The 2 hours of complete charge time wouldn’t have been possible if there was no 18W fast charger. This is pretty decent for a smartphone of this price so don’t expect a lightning-fast charge from the phone.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro: Price in Nigeria and Availability

The Redmi Note 8 Pro is available for purchase online via gadgetsmart.com.ng, jumia, Amazon, or certain online and offline phone retailers available in Nigeria.

You can pick up the Note 8 Pro for ₦105,000 (roughly $276) if you want the 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. However, the 128GB upgrade version of the phone will cost you ₦125,000 (around $328). However, the 8GB of RAM and 256GB storage variant is not yet available in Nigeria, and we doubt ever seeing it but that isn’t a problem as you can always use an SDcard to upgrade the phone’s in-built storage. The cost in both cases might be a lot higher in some regions, and it’s subject to change over time.
