Huawei P50 Review – Release Date, Specs, and Price in Nigeria

The Huawei P40 and its siblings – the P40 Pro and P40 Pro Plus are among the best phones of 2020. They’re equipped with amazing cameras, excellent processors, and plenty of power tanks. However, their only drawback is the lack of Google Mobile Services. Unfortunately, that issue hasn’t been solved in the Huawei P50 models, but they’ve at least been improved.

Huawei is looking forward to retaining its top stand in European phone market competition with the launch of the P50 series. The phone is equipped with the latest Android 10 OS, 5G network, Huawei Kirin 1000 chipset, and many other interesting features.

On the next subheading is our full review and verdict alongside its expected price in Nigeria. However, we haven’t heard much yet, but we’ll try by adding more as rumors roll in, so try and check on our page often.

The Huawei P50 sports a curved screen, double lens punch-hole camera in the top left corner, and one of the minimalist bezel you’ll ever find on a smartphone. Also, the power button and volume rockers are perfectly positioned on the right edge of the phone. Amazingly, a new blue color has been added to the available color options of silver, golden, marine blue, ice white, and black to give the phone a more superb aesthetic design.

Fortunately, the P50 sports a square camera module on the rear which houses the quad-camera set-up. The Huawei P50 design expresses durability, elegance, luxury, and strength which are something we’ve always been used to from Huawei. Unfortunately, Huawei has adopted the latest trend of altering the 3.5mm headphone jack to promote its own AirBud which isn’t a surprise to us.

According to rumors, the Huawei P50 has a 6.22-inch OLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate. This is a very good refresh rate and the feature we’ve been dying to see on Huawei flagship device. The phone will be showing at a resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels.

This is one of the best displays from Huawei and it’s ready to take over the market with its fairy resolution, perfect pixel density, and excellent screen-to-body ratio which will give its users a wider viewing experience.

Huawei P50 Review: Cameras

When it comes to the camera, the Huawei P50 quad camera is second to none. The camera performance of the phone is convincingly more than impressive. The 50-MP Leica sensor acts as the primary shooter and it’s accompanied by a generic 16-MP ultra-wide scanner, 8-MP telephoto lens, and a 5-MP depth sensor. On the front side, the P50 is equipped with an impressive dual 32-MP and 8-MP selfie camera.

When it comes to the camera performance, the Huawei P50 main camera is the star of the show. It’s actually the best camera from Huawei at the moment. The rear camera app is equipped with many interesting features including AI Cam, HDR, Bokeh, Beauty Plus, and many other enhancements that’ll bring out color-rich images. Also, there’s a very professional dual front camera that’ll give you clear, high-definition images.

The Huawei P50 can shoot 4K photos at either 30 or 60fps in addition to the gyro-EIS feature. Fortunately, the selfie camera can also shoot video with the same resolution as the front camera in addition to its support of HDR.

Huawei P50 Review: Processor Performance and Software

Huawei has upgraded the processor of the P50 from Kirin 9000 to 1000. This has been the company’s first 7nm chipset and it’s a move that has the significant improvement in performance as you’d expect.

The Huawei P50 chipset is paired with either 8GB or 12GB of RAM to deliver super-fast performance. On the storage side, the P50 is equipped with dual storage options of 128GB and 256GB. Fortunately, this is one of the best phone performance we’ve seen, and it’s indeed one of the main key points of this handset.

On the software side, the Huawei P50 ships in Android 10 OS and EMUI 10.2 overlay on top to bring out amazing customizable options. Meanwhile, we expect the P50 to be upgradable to the latest Android 11 operating system. Currently, these are the most modern OSes in the Android world.

Huawei P50 Review: Battery Capacity

The 4000mAh battery cell on the P50 turns out to be a great option for every phone user. Fortunately, the equipped 40W fast charger can power the phone from 0-75% in 30 minutes. This battery capacity is more than enough for an average user and can meet your daily needs with high efficiency and capacity.

Huawei P50 Review: Price in Nigeria and Availability

The only news of the announcement of the P50 says it’ll arrive in the first half of 2021. This is both vague and a rumor, but we can take it as a very good guess as the former Huawei P30 and Huawei P40 were announced on March 26 of their respective years. This means the P50 is likely to arrive at that time of the year as well.

As the Huawei P50 is expected to be announced on March 26, we’ll expect the shipping to begin within two weeks of that date, or maybe sooner based on past form, so be ready to have the P50 by the first week of April.

When it comes to the price in Nigeria, that’s certainly unknown at the time of this writing, but the Huawei P40 launched for ₦310,000 (around $770), so the P50 price might be the same or bigger.

However, that’s just for the base model. The Huawei P40 Pro cost ₦440,000 (roughly $1,050) and the P40 Pro Plus was ₦550,000 (around $1,376). This means we’ll expect prices of the P50 to rise steeply according to its model. Meanwhile, based on the US government restrictions, this phone won’t be available in the US unless a certain declaration will be made. Also, this has led to the upcoming phones from the company cutting edge with Google’s Play Services and the rest of the Google services that hundreds of people are accustomed to.
