Nokia 2.4 Review – The Only Gadget You’ll Need: Full Phone Specifications and Price in Nigeria

At the low end of cheap phone segment, there’s only but few choices when it comes to smartphones with compact Android software and performance. While Xiaomi and Oppo may give you complete value of your money, not everyone will love to have MIUI or ColorOS skin though they’ve improved drastically.

For fans who loves having ads free software, it’s basically down to Nokia, Motorola, and the new Oukitel smartphones. For years, Tecno and Infinix are the king of budget segment, but with the arrival of Oppo, Vivo, and Xiaomi, they seems to give the Transsion Holding companies competition in smartphone market.

With the introduction of Nokia 2.4, it offers you the best unadulterated Android One software with a strong backing of Nokia’s skin. Above all, the long battery life of Nokia 2.4 is the key aspect of this phone, although some serious slowdown from the processor will be a setback for Nokia 2.4 in the competition.

Nokia 2.4: Design and Build-up

One thing we fancy about Nokia 2.4 is the simple design aesthetics. Though there’s no glass rear panel or curved edges, but Nokia has done a great job by bringing it’s flagship Nordic design to this low budget smartphone. The Nokia 2.4 design spells quality with a well rounded glass and bezel-less display with a waterdrop cutout notch for the selfie camera. The back is made from a high-quality polycarbonate with a color options of Fjord, Dusk, and Charcoal.

Also, there’s a super-fine texture at the rear that makes the phone more comfortable to hold, adding a pretty unique feeling and making it scratch resistant. For a good reason, the plastic back is definitely better than those shiny glass ones as they tend to be more expensive than the plastic backs. Despite the Nokia 2.4 been a solid smartphone, Nokia still equipped an additional TPU case in the box that’ll further protect the phone against any unforeseen damages.

As for ports and buttons, the Nokia 2.4 is well equipped with the necessary phone connectivities. On the bottom, you’ll get a 3.5mm headphone jack for wired audio alongside a disappointedly microUSB for charging – even though most smartphones of this segments are equipped with USB-C. In addition, there’s a power button and volume rockers on the right with a dedicated Google Assistant button on the left.

There are fairly thick front black bezels with the “Nokia” official logo emblazoned on it. Meanwhile, there’s nothing flashy about Nokia 2.4 design. It’s totally utilitarian, giving it a simple design outlook which is nothing new about smartphones of this price segments.

Nokia 2.4: Display

The 6.5-inches Nokia 2.4 is equipped with an HD+ display that’s not really sharp, but does a great job when it comes to average phone use. The Nokia 2.4 display is well detailed and colorful enough for streaming videos on YouTube and checking out your photos. Meanwhile, the display panel is not good enough to be used on direct sunshine which is normal problem every mid-range phone faces.

Nokia 2.4: Camera Review

The 13-MP and 2-MP rear cameras on Nokia 2.4 takes sharp-looking photos especially in daylight conditions which is good for it’s price tag. Meanwhile, photos taken indoors always has a tendency to overexpose with things getting a bit tricky. To take the best shot, your subject needs to stand firm as any movement can lead to loss of detail or blurry image.

However, once the sun sets, the details and sharpness of Nokia 2.4 returns to normal with a “Night Mode” that does an impressive job given the 2.4 camera above average performance. Also, the video quality is decent and will best perform when taken in daylight. Just like most phones of this price range, you’ll also get a choice of 720p or 1080p recording options at 30fps.

The 5-MP selfie camera on the 2.4 takes decent photos which are slightly over exposed. Selfies taken in low light always come out soft and the subject looking unusually pale unless you make use of the selfie camera flash.

Nokia 2.4: Hardware Performance and Software

If you’re looking for an affordable smartphone where you can easily fly through apps, perform many actions at the same time, play 3D games, we’re disappointed to tell you that Nokia 2.4 is not for you. The performance of this smartphone is just average just like other mid-range phones which makes heavy duty actions nearly impossible on it unless you’re ready to bear the lags and hanging that comes with it.

Nokia’s MediaTek MT6762 Helio P22 chipse and 2GB or 3GB RAM is not enough and will create bottlenecks when one expects a smooth running Android experience. Even with a storage options of 32GB and 64GB, the 2.4 memory is not enough though you can choose to expand it by inserting an SDcard.

Despite the paltry of RAM and chipset, most 3D games managed to play well on this device. Simpler games like Subway Surfers, Temple Run, and most casual 2D/3D titles played smoothly on the Nokia 2.4. Meanwhile, graphics intensive 3D games like PUBG and Call of Duty worked best at low frame rate and graphics settings. However, we’re surprised to see the Asphalt 9 running smoothly at a low texture and resolution settings.

On the software side, this is where the Nokia 2.4 outshines mostly. The stock Android 10 feels good with no extra applications other than FM Radio and My Phone apps. Since the Nokia 2.4 is part of Google’s official Android One Program, Nokia promised 2 years of software updates which means you can always upgrade your phone to the latest Android operating system.

Nokia 2.4: Battery Capacity

This days, you don’t have to worry about battery life when buying any phone as most smartphones are equipped with big battery capacities that’ll give you more than a day active life. The 4500mAh battery cell on Nokia 2.4 lasted for 48 hours on our testing that involves swiping through Facebook and Instagram feeds, reading WhatsApp messages, and about an hour of video streaming. Unfortunately, the Nokia 2.4 biggest battery drainer turned out to be video streaming. We found this strange as the videos are not streamed at HD but rather SD. However, the Nokia 2.4 battery turns out to be reliable and will be your best companion when going on long vacation or travel.
