Samsung Galaxy A52 Review in Nigeria: Features, Specs, and Current Price

Last year’s Galaxy A51 was an amazing smartphone, and this year, the South Korean tech giant is looking forward to continuing that success with the launch of the latest Samsung Galaxy A52. Fortunately, with the features we’ve seen so far, we’re overwhelmed that Samsung has tackled the weaknesses found on the A51. Also, we’re looking forward to having yet another budget but highly-specced phone from Samsung.

The Samsung Galaxy A52 will be launched alongside A72, and A32, all maintaining Samsung’s stance in the mid-range market. Fortunately, 2020 was known to be a year of budget smartphones, however, 2021 is set to be a year of amazing flagship coated devices at mid-range price. Of course, a lower price comes with lesser specs, but that isn’t the case with Samsung Galaxy A52.

Interestingly, the display is now showing at a 120Hz refresh rate plus a Super AMOLED panel. Other improvements of the phone include a Snapdragon 750 chipset, 5G network, 64-megapixel quad-camera, and 4500mAh battery capacity.

However, the Samsung Galaxy A52 has plenty of value to offer for this price tag in terms of attractive design, amazing display, impressive camera performance, and strong battery life. While the Galaxy A52 has plenty of features to make it in the smartphone market, we’ve reviewed the total features, specs, and current price of the phone in Nigeria to know whether it’s worth your buy.

Put simply, the Galaxy A52 offers some of the design traits of Samsung’s flagship devices. The display borders are now slim with fewer bezels and the phone measuring 6.30 x 2.96 x 0.33 in dimensions. Interestingly, the A52 is now lighter weighing 187g. Similar to other A series, the A52 front panel is dominated by a near bezel-less display with Samsung’s Infinity-O punch-hole cutout on the middle top corner and won’t obstruct your phone’s activities. While the back is made of sturdy plastic finish, the front is covered by a Gorilla Glass protection.

On the rear panel, Samsung has changed the camera arrangement to suit the current rectangular trend. The quad-rear camera is positioned on the top left corner of the phone with the “Samsung” official logo slightly below. You can mistake the phone’s rear panel for a glass at a distance because of its shiny rainbow pinstripe texture. This is an amazing design aesthetics with a bid display for games and movies.

Unlike its predecessors, the Galaxy A52 offers an official IP67 rated water-resistant which can survive up to 1m depth water in 30 min. Fortunately, Samsung has retaliated from its former motive of deploying the 3.5mm headphone jack on its handsets just like in the Galaxy A51. With this in mind, the Samsung Galaxy A52 is equipped with a headphone jack and a microSD card slot so you won’t need to spend additional cash on a pair of headphones or wireless earbuds.

Unfortunately, the Samsung Galaxy A52 will be covered with fingerprints or smudges within a short period if you fail to use the provided transparent silicon case. However, you can buy any of the A52 variants in Awesome Black, Awesome White, Awesome Violet, and Awesome Blue color options. Samsung on its motive to make the Galaxy A52 have a high-end look equipped the phone with an in-display scanner.

As rumors suggest, it’s likely the Galaxy A52 will sport the same port arrangement as its predecessors. The top edge of the phone will be empty, while the bottom is occupied by the headphone jack, USB-C port, and speaker grill. Meanwhile, on the right side are the power button and volume rockers, while opposite is the dual-SIM/microSD card slot.

Fortunately, the Samsung Galaxy A52 is equipped with a massive 6.5-inch Super AMOLED display with an FHD+ resolution (1080 × 2400), and a 120Hz refresh rate. This is one of the key selling points of the phone as many competitors lacks either a 120Hz refresh rate or AMOLED panel. Also, there’s a higher 84.9% screen-to-body ratio and up to 405ppi density which makes the color reproduction vivid and sharp by default. Unlike other phones of this price, the Galaxy A52 display is too crisp and bright that you can easily view contents while under direct sunshine.

However, one issue with the A52 display is that you can’t watch movies or play games comfortably in direct sunshine, but it’s clear enough for viewing contents that don’t require high screen brightness. Issues aside this are not a problem for the Galaxy A52.

For photography, there’s a quartet of cameras on the rear panel, matching the four on the back of its predecessor. The upgraded 64-MP main camera is assisted by an 8-MP ultra-wide lens, 5-MP macro camera, and a 2-MP depth sensor. These are joined by a 32MP selfie camera on the front, housed in a punch-hole notch. Daylight shots are crisp and well-detailed with excellent depth of field. Fortunately, the color reproduction is natural and vivid though they’re a bit saturated, that’s one problem with Samsung mid-range devices.

Amazingly, we’re surprised at how excellent lowlight shots are unlike other mid-range handsets. Though the primary shooter and ultra-wide lens slightly lacked details and delivered some edge noise, but we found no flares, making the A52 a top choice over most of its competitors. Also, the Bokeh mode produces extra-ordinary object recognition that makes us doubt whether the photo is actually taken with a mobile phone or some Sony flagship camera.

The 32-MP front-facing camera takes well-detailed photos with excellent color accuracy. Also, the wide-angle mode will blur the background just like that of the iPhone SE. The Samsung Galaxy A52 can take 4K videos at30fps, 1080p at either 30/120fps.

Samsung Galaxy A52 Review: Processor Performance and Software

When it comes to the processor, Samsung has altered its own Exynos chipset that’s found on most of its mid-range devices and replaced it with a Snapdragon chip. There will be a dual choice of chipset depending on whether you want 5G connectivity or not. The base Galaxy A52 will get a Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G while the 5G variant gets a slightly more efficient 750G chipset.

Neither of these are the latest chip from Qualcomm, but they possess such great processing power that’s second to none. Besides, it outmatches Nord N10 Snapdragon 690 chip, and it’s on par with the Snapdragon 720 chipset in the Google Pixel 4a while the 5G variant is slightly above it.

The upgraded 6GB of RAM up from 4GB doesn’t seem to be a big deal. We expected to see the 8GB RAM as the base variant alongside a bigger 12GB. Nevertheless, it’s still a welcome improvement from the previous model and will make a good combination with the chipset for the effective running of multiple apps at once on a smoother experience.

Similar to the previous generation, the Samsung Galaxy A52 is equipped with a Game Booster that assists the Adreno 619 GPU in gaming performance. Top-level games including Asphalt 9, PUGB, COD, and many others played well without any hiccups.

Despite being a budget smartphone, Samsung equipped the A52 with the latest Android 11 OS along with its own One UI 3.1 interface overlay. This proves to be one of the easiest customizable interfaces available including the ability to modify apps icons.

Samsung has reportedly boosted the Galaxy A52 battery from 4000mAh to 4500mAh. That’s a slight but solid jump in capacity and would solve the issue of mediocre battery life we found with the Galaxy A51. This puts the battery specs above OnePlus Nord N10 which has a slightly smaller 4300mAh battery cell. Fortunately, the battery can be charged at up to 25W via a wired connection. However, wireless charging hasn’t been adopted yet but we expect to see it on next year’s model.

Samsung Galaxy A52: Price in Nigeria and Availability

The Samsung Galaxy A51 is likely to make its debut in April just like other Galaxy A-series. However, when it does launch, it’s looking like it has a good chance of becoming the best cheap phone in 2021, thanks to a broad feature set.

The previous Galaxy A51 at its launch costs ₦130,000 ($341). However, we haven’t confirmed the exact price of the Samsung Galaxy A52 but it’s likely to be between ₦150,000 – ₦200,000 ($375 – $495) for the base model.
