Vivo X90 Pro Review: A High-End Camera Centric Flagship Smartphone

Vivo, a leading smartphone manufacturer, has recently launched its latest flagship phone, the Vivo X90 Pro, which boasts impressive camera features and a sleek design.

The X90 Pro is the middle sibling of Vivo’s new lineup but it is the highest tier that will be available outside of the Chinese market. In this article, we will review the Vivo X90 Pro in detail and assess its features and performance.

Design and Display:

The X90 Pro features a large 6.8-inch AMOLED display with a 1260×2800 resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. While the resolution is not as high as the QHD panel of the previous year’s model, it still offers a sharper display than your typical phone with a 453 PPI. The device supports 10-bit color depth and HDR 10 plus, and the color accuracy can be excellent depending on the color mode you choose.

The X90 Pro’s display is bright, measuring a maximum of 520 nits with a manual brightness slider and a boost up to 930 nits in auto mode when in bright conditions. The 120Hz refresh rate smooths out your movements on the screen, but the switching here is not as advanced as the LTP03 panel of last year’s model.

The X90 Pro boasts a vegan leather backing with a glass circle on the back that houses the camera lenses, giving it a full-on camera aesthetic. The phone’s grippy vegan leather backing is a new development, and for the global version, black is the only color option.

The back panel curves into a thin aluminum frame, and the round camera bump is now bigger and stands alone, rather than being surrounded by a glass square. The phone is waterproof and dustproof, with IP68 rated protection, making it a durable option.

The X90 Pro’s main camera features a huge one-inch type sensor, the same as we saw in the Xiaomi 12s Ultra, making it an excellent choice for photography enthusiasts.

The phone is equipped with a mediatek dimensity 9200 chipset, which provides several enhancements over the previous version and is designed to provide the fastest and most efficient camera processing yet from Vivo. The phone has a third-gen custom image processing chip called the Vivo V2, which also contributes to enhanced camera performance.

The Vivo X90 Pro is the first phone to feature the mediatek dimensity 9200 chipset, which is top of the line and brings several advancements in graphics performance, including a hardware-based ray tracing engine. The phone’s CPU scores are notably improved over phones running on a demensity 9000 or Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, although it is slightly outperformed by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 in both CPU and GPU tests.

The X90 Pro has a massive heatsink-based cooling system, and the thermal management was good during the hour-long CPU stress test. However, during the graphic stress test, the phone became uncomfortably hot.

Battery Life:

The X90 Pro has a slightly larger battery than last year’s model, with 4870 milliamp hours versus 4700 milliamp hours. The phone supports lightning-fast wired charging and wireless charging, making it convenient for users who are always on the go.

Software:

The global version of the Vivo X90 Pro runs funtouch OS 13 on top of Android 13, a highly customized interface with full Google support and plenty of custom features. The phone has simple blue circular buttons within the notification shade, rather than Google’s large bubble-style ones.

The dynamic effects submenu offers a range of customization options for the home screen, lock screen, and animation effects. One notable feature is that you can customize the always-on display with a range of themes and fonts.

Conclusion:

The Vivo X90 Pro is an impressive smartphone with a lot to offer. Its camera performance is excellent, especially for photography enthusiasts, and its design is sleek and stylish. The display is sharp and bright, although it may not be as advanced as last year’s model. The phone’s performance is top-of-the-line, although it may heat up during intensive graphics tasks.

The battery life is good, and the phone supports fast charging and wireless charging. The funtouch OS 13 offers plenty of customization options, although it may take some getting used to for users accustomed to stock Android. If you’re looking for a high-end smartphone with an emphasis on camera performance, the Vivo X90 Pro is definitely worth considering.
