How to connect your Samsung smart TV to Alexa Smart Speaker in Nigeria 2021

If you’re using a Samsung Smart TV and want to add the basic voice control of the Amazon Alexa smart speaker to your TV, connecting the Smart TV is very easy. With just a couple of apps and few settings, you can connect your Alexa powered device or Amazon Echo to offer some smart voice control on your Samsung Smart TV now with the convenience ability to switch the TV on and off, adjust the volume, set the screen brightness, and perform other basic TV controls.

If you’ve got a Samsung Q60t OLED TV or any 2020 Samsung TV, you’re in a better position as current Samsung TVs are equipped with a built-in Amazon Alexa. A smart speaker is no longer needed as you can use the attached microphone in the remote control to command the Alexa and perform voice interactions, as well as open apps, play music, search for movies and shows, change the channel, and control your other compatible smart home devices.

The 2018 and 2019 smart TV models discussed here only have basic voice control options, but Samsung has long been making underground plans to make it more voice-friendly. The inbuilt Bisby voice assistant has more advanced controls by using the microphone on the TV remote control.

Below are the steps on how to connect your Samsung smart TV to Alexa voice control.

How to connect your Samsung smart TV to Alexa

Step 1. Set up Your Devices

The first and foremost method is to make sure your Samsung smart TV and your Amazon Alexa are connected and functioning. Once the TV and the Alexa device initial setup are completed, you’ll need to ensure that both devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

If the TV and Amazon Alexa haven’t been connected, you’ll still need to set-up the TV in Samsung’s SmartThings App. Simply sign-in to your Samsung account on the TV to perform this operation.

Step 2: Prepare the Apps

After setting up the smart TV and Alexa device, the next step is to prepare the apps with your smartphone. Your Android or iOS handset needs to be ready to coordinate with this device. Download the Samsung SmartThings app (available for Android and iOS) and the Amazon Alexa app (for Android and iOS) if you haven’t connected the two devices.

After that, log in to the two apps with the same account information you used for your Echo’s Amazon account and Samsung TV’s account.

Step 3: Search for your TV in the SmartThings app

Also, you’ll need to discover your Samsung TV in the SmartThings app, which when connecting to your Alexa speaker will allow you to treat your smart TV as the basic connected device.

To discover your TV, simply go to the Devices menu located in the bottom menu of the app, then click on the “Add Device” option. Once your TV is powered on, you’ll easily find your device in the list. Once the device is found and you’ve already paired your phone to the TV, select the Samsung Smart TV and enable it to function as a smart device by using the toggle button next to its name.

Step 4: Discover your smart speaker in the Alexa app.

Also, you’ll need to make sure that your Echo Dot, Amazon Echo, or any other Amazon device has been discovered in the Amazon Alexa app. If it hasn’t been discovered or you’re using another phone to connect, you’ll need to do the following, but if it doesn’t work for you, kindly move on to the next step.

Click on the Devices button from the menu located at bottom of the home screen in the app. If the Amazon Echo, Echo Dot, or any other similar Alexa device shows up in the menu, then you’re good to go. But if it’s not, open the All Devices in the menu and find your Alexa device in the list of the available connected devices.

Step 5: Connect the Apps

This is the easiest step among all of them. Enable the Samsung SmartThings skill in the Amazon Alexa app. After that, sign-in using your Samsung account to link the accounts.

Step 6: Select your TV in the Alexa app

Once the Samsung SmartThings skill is enabled, which must have automatically paired with Alexa to the TV, then you’re done. Congratulations, you’ve connected your Samsung Smart TV to Alexa voice assistant.

You can now use your voice to command your Alexa Smart Speaker to power the TV on and off, tune the volume, change the channel, control media playback, and even perform basic controls like pause and play, fast and forward, rewind, etc. Welcome to the world of Smart Technology.
