How to Connect your Laptop to a Monitor 2021

Smart TVs are great and a must have for some gadgets lovers and a nice to have for others. Smart TVs, unlike conventional television sets, let us stream content from services like Netflix or Hulu, browse the internet, and check social media—directly from the TV set without additional hardware. Not all of us are lucky enough to have these kind of TVs. It can be wearing trying to watch a film or a series on your laptop and try and prop it up so you can see and hear it, which is why a lot of people use their laptops to connect directly into a monitor.

Check The Ports for the HDMI port

Most laptops come with HDMI ports. Some come with both HDMI and VGA ports. Some others come with Micro HDMI ports. While some more recents portable PCs like the newer versions of MAC and Surface books come with USB C ports. We will address all of these different ports variations.

Traditional HDMI ports.


All you need to do is get an HDMI to HDMI cable and then connect one end to the port on your laptop and the other end to the TV or Monitor.

Micro HDMI ports.

For laptops with Micro HDMI ports,get a cable with a Micro HDMI connector on one end and a traditional HDMI connector on the end. Plug the Micro HDMI connector to your laptop’s ports and then the other end to your Monitors HDMI port.

USB C

There are two ways to handle this.

  1. Purchase a HDMI cable with a USB C on the other end.
  2. Purchase a dock with a USB C connector. This dock gives you all the additional ports your require, from HDMI to standard USBs.

Once all these have the settled, get connected.

It doesnt have to be a HDMI but the HDMI can be termed the standard. The VGA is outdated. If you have a laptop or monitor with a VGA port, we advise you to upgrade to a better laptop for better picture quality.

Once you are now connected you can decide if you wanted to have duplicate screen or a mirror screen.
