India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) has rapidly gained popularity, becoming the preferred digital payment method in the country. Now, with global recognition, UPI has extended its reach to various countries, allowing users to make payments when traveling or residing abroad. The Government of India is actively working to establish a worldwide infrastructure to support UPI payments, with an expanding list of countries embracing this efficient payment method.

  1. Open the UPI app.
  2. Scan the QR code at the desired location.
  3. Enter the amount in foreign currency, displaying the current conversion rate, bank fee, and total.
  4. Tap on ‘Activate UPI International,’ and enter your PIN.
  5. Complete the transaction.

Using UPI Apps in Other Countries:

  1. Download a UPI app from the App Store (for iPhones) or Google Play Store (for Android).
  2. Register your Indian bank account with the UPI app.
  3. Scan the recipient’s QR code.
  4. Enter the amount in foreign currency (app automatically converts to INR).
  5. Select the account and enter the UPI PIN.
  6. Confirm payment.

For NRIs:

  1. Download a UPI-supporting app.
  2. Register using your NRE or NRO account.
  3. Enter banking details and the Indian phone number linked to the account.
  4. Confirm OTP for the link between account and phone number.
  5. Enter UPI ID for hassle-free payments.

Using UPI Payments Within India While Abroad:

  1. Keep the UPI-enabled app with your Indian bank account active.
  2. Don’t remove the SIM card registered with the bank to receive OTPs.
  3. Open the app, enter UPI, scan QR code, or select from history.
  4. Enter the amount in INR, followed by the PIN, to complete the payment.

Note: UPI payments internationally may not be available everywhere, so ensure your visiting country supports India’s UPI for both domestic and international transactions. Stay connected and make seamless payments with UPI, even when abroad.”
