Realme X50 Pro 5G: Design and Aesthetics

At first glance, you’ll mistake Realme X50 Pro for OnePlus 7T Pro as they both feature similar aluminum-glass sandwich design with matte-finish texture. The two sides of the phone are protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection.

Xiaomi claims they chose the 25% of haze value on the X50 Pro 5G to cut down the emission of light from 8% to less than 1% of ordinary glass. Meanwhile, the Realme X50 Pro 5G roughness of the surface is controlled on 0.15um, which provides delicate and warm hand fill, making the matte surface-soft, comfortable, and fingerprint-resistant. The X50 Pro 5G is available in dual colors of Moss Green and Rust Red.

On the front panel, the phone sports a similar dual-camera set-up that’s on Poco X2. The phone has space for dual-SIM slots of Nano-SIM and dual stand-by. However, the microSD card slot has been altered but that won’t be a problem as the large built-in memory is more than enough to store your numerous files and data. Also, the Realme X50 Pro 5G lacks the 3.5mm headphone jack just like in Apple iPhones and most Samsung Galaxy devices. This is the company’s first phone to alter this feature, and it’ll be in a bid to market its Realme Wireless Earbuds.

When compared to Realme X2 Pro, the X50 Pro 5G is a bit heavier but smaller with dimensions of 159 x 74.2 x 8.9 mm and weighing 205g. Coming to the button placements, the volume rockers are positioned on the right alongside the power button with a gold accent. Meanwhile, the secondary microphone is on the top, while the primary microphone, USB-C, speaker grill, and the SIM slot are housed on the bottom.

Realme X50 Pro 5G: Display

The Realme X50 Pro 5G comes in a 6.44-inch Super AMOLED display with a smooth 90Hz refresh rate. Meanwhile, the X50 Pro has a Full HD+ display (1080 x 2400 pixels) with a 20:9 aspect ratio. Fortunately, the screen is protected by Gorilla Glass 5 protection and support HDR10+ with 1000+ nits peak brightness. Also, the phone sports minimal bezels with a 92% screen-to-body ratio and support hardware-level DC dimming as well. For security, we have a face-unlock ID alongside in-display fingerprint scanner from Goodix that can easily unlock the phone within 0.27 seconds.

In normal usage, the phone’s display is great with deep black colors, and accurate color reproduction. Fortunately, the viewing angles are great too, with a perfect readable display under sunlight, thanks to the Super AMOLED panel.

Under settings, you can choose to use any of the two presets-Gentle and Vivid display. Furthermore, it has OSIE Vision effect, Low-brightness Flicker-free eye Care, and Night-shield effects as well. However, the OSIE Vision effect boosts the display’s color but only on compatible apps. Also, you can choose to adjust the refresh rate between 60 and 90Hz on the settings to save battery. Finally, the Realme X50 Pro 5G display offers a great viewing experience, be it for playing games or streaming videos.

Realme X50 Pro 5G: Cameras

The Realme X50 Pro 5G packs a quad rear camera set-up including a 64-MP Samsung GW1 sensor, 8-MP ultra-wide sensor with 3cm macro camera support, 12-MP telephoto lens, and 2-MP black and white depth sensor. Meanwhile, there’s a dual front-facing camera of 32-MP with a Sony IMX616 sensor and an 8-MP ultra-wide sensor.

The X50 Pro is one of the few smartphones in Nigeria with a wide camera set-up. Unfortunately, we are a bit disappointed with the camera performance in low light, this isn’t what we thought a flagship device of this price will turn out to be. However, in daylight or lighting conditions, the phone delivers crisp performance with a dynamic close range to natural colors. It also features Chroma Boost which increases the photo vibrancy and saturation.

The dual front cameras offers good result with a 100° field of view. Also, the 12-MP telephoto lens can take up to 2× optical zoom, 5× hybrid, and 20× digital zoom photos. Meanwhile, the 8-MP sensor doubles up as a macro and ultra-wide lens which takes good shots as well.

Realme X50 Pro 5G: Processor Performance and Software

The Realme X50 Pro 5G is the company’s first phone in Nigeria to feature Qualcomm’s X55 modem, which means it supports the latest 5G network connectivity. Fortunately, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chipset paired with either 6, 8, or 12GB RAM gives it a very fast performance for all tasks. On the storage side, the phone comes in dual storage options of 128GB and 256GB. Meanwhile, the Adreno 650 GPU takes care of the graphics department. Currently, there’s no functioning 5G network compatibility in Nigeria.

Being one of the fastest phones out there with good processors, we experienced zero hitches or lags while using the phone. The phone features an improved five-dimensional vapor cooling system including Multilayer Solid Graphite and Vapor Chamber which enables higher heat dissipation performance. This cooling system helps the phone to maintain peak performance, especially when playing graphics-intensive games for long.

The X50 Pro 5G ships in Android 10 on top of Realme UI 2 out of the box. Realme reveals the UI is specifically crafted to suit the preferences and aesthetics of young fans. This new interface offers elegant visuals, useful features, and smooth performance as well. Fortunately, it features lots of customizable options including the option to change the icon size and style, dark mode, dual earphone connection, animated wallpapers, and much more.

Realme X50 Pro 5G: Battery Capacity

The Realme X50 Pro 5G is powered by a huge 4200mAh battery cell with a massive 65W charger out of the box. This SuperDart fast charger can power the phone from 0-100% in 40 minutes. Fortunately, the battery life is above average, giving you up to 24 hours active mode in casual usage after a full charge. Unfortunately, the 90Hz refresh rate drains the battery life faster once switched on. However, the company is using the 65W SuperDart fast charger as a makeweight for it.
