If you find yourself working from home, it’s impossible not to have considered the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 as the best 2-in-1 equipment or tablet for getting things done. The Galaxy Tab S7 is Samsung’s take on the tablet as a laptop. It packs numerous flagship hardware including a terrific S Pen, and has a 5G connection, though with an extra charge. It’s fairy a sturdy built tablet and can be a strong competitor to Apple’s iPad Air.
Picking up the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 is an iPad Pro in Android’s form. If you’re familiar with Apple’s tablet, you’ll realize the similarities including its machined aluminum chassis, vivid screen, and great sound speakers too. This is to show how far Samsung can go to make the Tab S7 a strong competitor to Apple iPad.
However, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 doesn’t stand in Apple’s shadow. The Tab S7’s battery capacity beats the iPad Air, and that’s why it’s not just the best Android tablets around, but also the best tablet overall. Unfortunately, its awkward keyboard cover and not great performance is a big blow to the tablet’s quality.
This is just half of the story. Read on to see Samsung’s seriousness and dedication to becoming the best selling tablet brand in the world.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S7: Design and Aesthetics
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 is slightly larger than Tab S6 but sports thin black bezels and an aluminum frame. The tablet is sold in Mystic Silver, Mystic Bronze, and Mystic Black colors, with an astonishing slate similar to the 2018 and 2020 iPad Pros.
The little bezels are not a bad thing as when you pare down a tablet to just its screen, there will be only a little room for modifications. Samsung’s choice of color made the tablet fantabulous and the Mystic finish is a shade more than what Apple offers
At 9.99 x 6.51 x 0.25 inches and 498g, the 11-inches Galaxy Tab S7 is thinner and lighter than the Microsoft Surface Pro (0.3-in thick, 1.7 pounds), but slightly heavier than the iPad Air 2020 (0.2-in thick, 1 pound) and iPad Pro (0.2-in thick, 1 pound).
On the rear panel, Samsung integrated a spot for the Stylus pen to magnetically dock and a thin camera module which we’ll explain in full details later. Meanwhile, a pair of sound speakers are housed on either side of the tablet.
On the right edge of Tab S7 are a USB-C port for charging and data transfer. Meanwhile, the top edge sports a power button which also functions as the fingerprint sensor, along with the volume rocker. Also, there’s an SDcard slot for expanding the internal memory, and a pogo pin connector and magnetic divots on the bottom for keeping the included optional Book Cover Keyboard.
Samsung Galaxy Tab S7: Display
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S7’s 1600 x 2560 pixel panel impressed us while watching a 4K nature video from YouTube. The color accuracy is great but lacks the same quality of vivid, deep black, and inky colors you’ll find on Tab S7 Plus. The Galaxy Tab S7 LTPS TFT panel is bright enough to operate in direct sunshine without any problems.
When it comes to brightness, the Galaxy Tab S7 reaches up to 500 nits of brightness. Unfortunately, this tablet is slightly below iPad Pro (559-nit), but brighter than iPad Air (440-nit), and Microsoft Surface Pro 7 (395-nit).
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 has an impressive 120Hz smooth refresh rate which is absent on both iPad Pro and Surface Pro. To check it out, enable and disable the refresh rate setting found in Settings > Display > Motion Smoothness. After you’re done performing this action, you can now watch videos moving more smoothly, and text being less pixelated when scrolling.
Samsung Galaxy Tab S7: Cameras
We normally don’t rate tablet photography, but the Galaxy Tab S7’s front camera is good for video conferencing, while the dual rear camera will deliver decent social media photos too. However, the Galaxy Tab S7’s rear camera sports a very visible camera bump. Fortunately, the tablet doesn’t rock back and forth if you leave it lying still.
The tablet’s 8-MP front camera perfectly delivered well-detailed shots, capturing every pinks of the skin tone, including the textures of both the fabric and face of the subject.
The 13-MP rear-facing camera performed well with still photography. It’s accompanied by a 5-MP ultra-wide camera which can only be utilized when taking a wider shot, but be ready to trade a lot of detail away.
Samsung Galaxy Tab S7: Hardware Performance and Software
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 ships in Qualcomm Snapdragon 865+ chipset which is more than enough for multitasking. We experienced no lag when the screen is split between 12 Chrome tabs and one 1080p YouTube video. Google Docs and Spotify were running in the background, and they performed smoothly.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 is equipped with three RAM/storage configurations including 6GB + 128GB, 8GB + 256GB, and 8GB + 512GB storage variants. All three storage variants support up to 1TB of external storage through SDcard.
The Galaxy Tab S7 runs a version of Android 10 on top of Samsung’s own One UI 2.5 user interface. Samsung users love these tweaks, which have been redesigned and more refined over the years.
Since note-taking is a major part of tablets and Galaxy Note phones, we’re disappointed on how long it took Samsung to make its Notes app sync across its tablets, phones, and even PC app. The Galaxy Tab S7 now can record audio, and fix it within a notes file, so the tablet can bring what was being said while you take the notes.
Samsung Galaxy Tab S7: Stylus Pen
The Galaxy Tab S7 S-Pen doesn’t come free but feels more like an actual pen than what Samsung use to integrate into past Galaxy Tab slates. When working on Samsung Note, we noticed the significant difference in speedy input recognition which Samsung rates at 9ms and on par with 2nd Gen Apple Pencil.
Unfortunately, we dislike the annoying sound the S-Pen use to make when writing which is similar to the effect of a pencil drawing on paper. It’s remindful of how new cars with good engines play fake engine noise out of their speakers. To reduce this noise, we’ve to turn down the tab audio.
Samsung Galaxy Tab S7: Battery Capacity
Before now, tablets are highly criticized because of their mediocre battery cells, but things seems to have changed now. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 is equipped with a huge 8000mAh battery capacity which provides more than all-day battery life. On our Wi-Fi-based battery test, the Galaxy Tab S7 lasted for 13 hours, 16 minutes beating iPad Pro (10:16), and iPad Air (10:29).
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 comes equipped with a 45W charger out of the box which helps to fasten the charging speed. During the launch event, Samsung revealed the Tab S7 will last for up to 14 hours of video playback. Meanwhile, enabling the 120Hz refresh rate will cost you some battery life.
Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 and S7 Plus: Price in Nigeria and Availability
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 and its Plus model has been on sale since September 18, 2020. The Galaxy Tab S7 price starts at ₦350,000 ($898) while the Tab S7 Plus starts at ₦500,000 ($1,314).
For cellular connectivity, you’re going to be spending an extra ₦38,000 ($100) more for 5G. This will take the 5G Tab S7 price to ₦388,000 ($998), while the 5G Tab S7 Plus goes for ₦538,000 ($1,414).
Similar to Ipad Pro’s Smart Keyboard Folio and Magic Keyboard, you’ll pay extra to get the Galaxy Tab S7 Book Cover Keyboard and cases. You’ll spend ₦16,500 (Tab S7) and ₦17,000 (Tab S7 Plus) for the Book Cover Keyboards, and ₦6000 (Tab S7) and ₦6000 (Tab S7 Plus) for the Book Cover Cases. These two types of equipment will protect the included S-Pen from falling off.
