Xiaomi Mi 11 Review: Full Specifications, Features, and Price in Nigeria

The Xiaomi Mi 11 was officially announced on December 28, 2020, and it’s the company’s first phone to feature the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipset. Currently, the launch was only limited to China, but we still expect Xiaomi to launch the smartphone in other countries of the world. Unfortunately, the Pro model hasn’t been officially announced yet, but we still expect to hear from the South-Korean company soon.

While Samsung has downgraded certain features of the Galaxy S21, Xiaomi has improved in several aspects, but many fans feel they’re not enough for an upgrade. Meanwhile, the Galaxy S21 and Mi 11 still remains the only two smartphones to feature Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 888 chipset.

However, the Xiaomi Mi 11 display is now bigger showing at 6.81-inches with a higher resolution of 3200×1440 pixels and an upgraded 120Hz refresh rate. Other features of the phone include an 8GB/12GB RAM, 128/256GB built-in storage, Android 11 OS, 5G network connectivity, and 4600mAh battery capacity. Also, the retaining of glass back still makes the Mi 11 one of the best phones available.

Xiaomi Mi 11 Review: Design and Display

At 2.81-inches, this might sound unwieldy, but we would have loved to see a larger screen size. I’ve been a fan of big displays and they’ve always captivated my attention. When compared to the older Mi 10, you’re getting only 2mm added height and 0.5mm narrower. The Xiaomi Mi 11 is smaller and weighs less than the Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro which has larger bezels.

Fortunately, the issue of big bezels on the bottom of the screens as it was on the previous models has been sorted here. Users now have to enjoy their device without missing any navigation buttons.

Similar to other flagship AMOLED phones, the Mi 11 display curves into the sides of the phone giving you a fully edge-to-edge viewing angle. The device’s aesthetics looks fantastic, having a Gorilla Glass protection on the front and rear panel, along with an aluminum frame.

On the display side, Xiaomi really performs wonders here by equipping the Mi 11 with the latest 120Hz resolution while some flagship devices of this price are stuck with only 90Hz. Unfortunately, this full 120Hz has a significant impact on the battery life making it drain more than expected. However, you can choose to use between the 90Hz and 120Hz refresh rate by accessing the phone’s settings. Also, there’s an option for MEMC which adds frames into videos for smoother play.

On the rear panel, the Xiaomi Mi 11 has a noticeable camera bump but not comparable to that of the Mi 10T Pro. Although Xiaomi included a silicon case in the box, it sits flush with the main camera module, while the primary sensor still pops out a bit, making it prone to damage. Fortunately, the 20-MP punch-hole selfie camera is positioned on the top left screen and won’t interrupt your phone’s activities.

Overall, the Xiaomi Mi 11 build-up quality and the display are incomparable to other phones that cost considerably more. The cheapest Samsung Galaxy S21 model which is costlier sports a plastic back panel with a flat display unlike the Mi 11’s glass rear and curved display.

Xiaomi Mi 11 Review: Cameras

The camera performance of the Mi 11 is convincingly more than impressive. The 108-MP Samsung sensor acts as the main camera, and it’s the same camera specs we saw on the Mi 10 and Mi 10T Pro. Furthermore, the main camera is assisted by a generic 13-MP ultra-wide sensor and a 5-MP macro camera. On the front side, the Mi 11 is equipped with an impressive 20-MP selfie camera.

When it comes to the camera performances, the main camera is the star of the show, though it won’t be regarded as best at the moment but absolutely one of them. Meanwhile, the macro lens is ok, but you need to manually switch to macro mode. However, it’s hard to focus on the subject, but when it works, you’ll get the best shot. Furthermore, the ultra-wide is good too just like many phones of this segment.

Also, the video is great too. We love the stabilization of the camera while shooting video. You can shoot 8K @24/30fps, 4K @30/60fps, and 1080p @30/60/120/240/480fps.

Xiaomi Mi 11 Review: Processor Performance and Software

As you would expect from a flagship device, the overall performance of Mi 11 is absolutely great, everything on the phone runs at the speed of light. The perfect combination of SD888 and 120Hz refresh rate makes everything look great and outstanding.

Currently, there are only two smartphones that are equipped with the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipset – Samsung Galaxy S21 and Xiaomi Mi 11. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor on the Mi 11 is paired with either 8GB or 12GB RAM and dual storage options of 128GB and 256GB. Unfortunately, there’s no room for SDcard which means you have to rely on the provided built-in storage for all your files, but that won’t be a problem as the ROM memory is more than enough for them.

Playing Call of Duty games with this phone would be a great dream for every game fan. The massive 6.81-inch AMOLED display added to the impression of the game. However, during gaming, the phone does heat up especially after gaming for long.

On the software side, the Mi 11 is equipped with the latest Android 11 on top of the Xiaomi MIUI 12.5 user interface. This is one of the first phones to feature Android’s latest and greatest software and bet me, the MIUI interface is good too.

Xiaomi Mi 11 Review: Battery Capacity

So why the phone has issues with the battery once the 120Hz resolution is switched on, but on normal use, we found the battery to be great.

The 4600mAh battery cell on the Mi 11 performs better than the 4200mAh on Realme X50 Pro. Interestingly, the Mi 11 supports 55W wired charging which Xiaomi said can fully power the phone within 45 minutes. Also, there are 50W fast wireless charging and 10W reverse wireless charging.

Xiaomi Mi 11 Review: Price in Nigeria and Availability

Currently, the Xiaomi Mi 11 hasn’t been launched in Nigeria and most African countries yet but we expect it to arrive before the middle of the year as an initial announcement has been made on their official social media platform, but the date of the launch event hasn’t been released yet.. The phone will be available in Horizon Blue, Cloud White, Midnight Gray, Special Edition Blue, Gold, and Violet color options.

While the Xiaomi Mi 11 hasn’t been launched in Nigeria and UK, the Samsung Galaxy S21 is the only other flagship phone to launch in 2021. However, we expect the price of the Xiaomi Mi 11 to be around ₦350,000 (roughly $919).

However, the Mi 10T Pro is a superb option currently at ₦300,000 on jumia.com.ng. While it has an LCD display which is a turn-off for most people, it’s still a good option because of its lower price, decent performance, and longer battery too.
