The Huawei P30 Pro is the company’s first flagship device that’s solely focused on photography. Undoubtedly, this phone offers one of the best camera performances with its 5× optical zoom, 10× hybrid zoom, and a massive 50× digital zoom, alongside a smart technology for low-light shots.
However, this doesn’t mean the P30 Pro only focuses on camera, the smartphone also offers the basic decent features you’d expect from a flagship device including a premium design and display, an in-display fingerprint scanner, plenty of power under the hood, wireless charging support, and decent battery life.
Simply put, the Huawei P30 Pro is a device loaded with a super-fast Kirin 980 chipset that debuted in last year’s Mate 20 Pro. Also, this smartphone is equipped with lots of memory and storage that’s paired with the processor to deliver a stunning seamless performance.
However, there’s no doubt the P30 Pro is far more than just a picture-taking powerhouse, read on to find a clearer review and verdict about this stunning device.

Huawei P30 Pro: Design
The Huawei P30 Pro design sports a lot of changes and upgrades over its predecessor – the Huawei P20 Pro. Fortunately, Huawei has completely altered the up and down bezels of the screen to a bare minimum. This perfectly fits into the latest trending bezel-less display and pave way for a wider screen display.
Amazingly, there’s a fingerprint scanner embedded in the display, although we found out it takes more time than the rear or side-mounted sensor to unlock. Also, it’s time-consuming to set up as you’ll have to input several scans to register. However, once the set-up is through, the scanner is working at a decent speed unlike the one on most phones.
Fortunately, Huawei has adopted the latest curvy display that was debuted in Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. The Huawei P30 Pro screen and the protective Gorilla Glass are now curved on the left and right edges to pave way for more comfy handling. This design aesthetic was also found on the Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus. Also, it gives your hand a classy feeling which added to the premium styling of the device.
Undoubtedly, the P30 Pro is a large and tall device measuring 158 x 73.4 x 8.4mm in dimensions. This puts it slightly ahead of iPhone XS Max and Galaxy S10 Plus. However, the Huawei P30 Pro feels narrower and thinner than you’d expect, thanks to the curved display.
However, Huawei P30 Pro will require a lot of caution to handle because of its all-glass finish. Fortunately, Huawei provided a translucent silicone case in the box that helps to protect the handset from fingerprint magnets and drops. Also, it provides much-needed grip without spoiling the design. The phone is available in numerous color choices of Aurora, Amber Sunrise, Breathing Crystal, Black, Pearl White, Misty Lavender, and Mystic Blue.
Unfortunately, there’s an absence of a 3.5mm headphone jack which isn’t a surprise to us anymore. However, if you’re a die-hard wired fan, you can easily get a USB-C 3.5mm adapter and connects it to the USB-C port. Also, you can choose to get a set of wireless headphones to listen to audios, all of which will cost you additional money.
On the base is a SIM tray flanked by a speaker and USB-C port. However, the SIM tray also houses the microSD card slot which means you’ll have to sacrifice one SIM to occupy your SDcard if the need arises. The right side of the phone is occupied by the power button and volume keys while the left remains bare.
Finally, the Huawei P30 Pro is an IP63 rated device, meaning its water and dust-resistant can survive in up to 2m of water for 30 minutes.
Huawei P30 Pro: Display
The Huawei P30 Pro features a sizable 6.47-inch OLED display showing at 2340 x 1080 pixels resolutions, 398ppi density, and 19.5:9 aspect ratio. The Huawei P30 Pro produces vivid, bright, and natural color imagery and texts. This gives you a smooth and seamlessly enjoyable viewing experience, thanks to the OLED panel.
However, many of the flagship competitors like Samsung and LG are equipped with QHD panels which are slightly above the one on P30 Pro. Meanwhile, the Huawei P30 Pro still maintains a decent display, but not the best in its category.
Huawei P30 Pro: Camera Review
Undoubtedly, the Huawei P30 Pro’s most selling point is on its cameras. This is the best feature of this amazing device and as a photography device, it’s excellent. As normal with Huawei flagship devices, the P30 Pro cameras are co-engineered by Leica which bestows its photography prowess on this device.
The triangular camera bump houses a quad-camera array consisting of a 40-MP primary shooter, 8-MP telephoto lens, 20-MP ultra-wide lens, and ToF (time-of-flight) depth-sensing camera.
Launching the camera app will introduce you to the main camera which is snapping at 10-MP by default. However, you can easily click on the settings icon to switch over to the main 40-MP sensor. There’s no doubt that the photos taken are perfect with enough details. Meanwhile, you should note that this will not offer you the P30 Pro’s zooming capabilities unless you’re sticking to the default 10-MP setting. Fortunately, the Huawei P30 Pro cameras offers up to 50× zoom support which will allow you to take closer and clearer shots of subjects that are far.
Also, the Huawei P30 Pro cameras performs great on low-light shots, delivering photos with great vibrancy, well-detailed, and clarity more than most competitors. Amazingly, in extreme lowlight conditions that your eyes will struggle to pick out details, the P30 Pro cameras perform wonders by initiating its LED light to enhance and brighten the image. Switching to Night mode will take you to another world with its photography prowess.
Upfront, the teardrop notch houses the 32-MP selfie camera. This is a single sensor with an absence of the ToF sensor, but it manages to take great portrait shots to our surprise. Also, there’s plenty of details that are good for social media upload.
Huawei P30 Pro: Processor, Performance, and Software
The Huawei P30 Pro packs in a Kirin 980 chipset and either 6GB or 8GB of RAM, giving the handset plenty of power under the hood.
Undoubtedly, the P30 Pro can easily handle any app or game you throw at it. On many occasions, it has comfortably played graphics-demanding games like PUGB and Asphalt 9 on the highest settings seamlessly without skipping a beat.
Depending on your location, the Huawei P30 Pro offers triple storage options of 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB. However, the 128GB variant is the most common and most affordable and offers more than enough storage. Also, there’s SDcard support that shares the same slot with the SIM tray in case there’s a need to expand the available storage.
The Huawei P30 Pro runs on the Android 9 Pie operating system, but with EMUI 10 overlay. Fortunately, you’ll be able to upgrade to the latest Android 10 and get access to lots of features it offers.
EMUI will be a hit or miss depending on your preference. It gives you an iPhone-like app drawer which displays app icons across the home screen. Also, there’s a pre-installed theme store that allows you to easily download both free and paid themes to change the look of your home screen. Fortunately, it features some of Google’s suite of apps despite the restrictions. Undoubtedly, the EMUI interface paves way for easy navigation around the phone, giving you a lot of customization controls to further enhance your experience.
Huawei P30 Pro: Battery Capacity
The Huawei P30 Pro packs an average 4200mAh battery capacity, although it’s slightly larger than most devices in its category.
In today’s phone world, this is among the lowest battery capacity you’ll come across as many mid-range devices features larger cells and can easily last for 48-hour after a full charge.
However, turning up the power saving mode will provide extra 30 minutes or more when you have about 20% battery left. Also, there’s an ultimate power-saving mode that effectively doubles the battery life left. However, it does this by switching you to the basic monochrome service, unlike the normal power saving mode that only limits your screen brightness level and background activity.
Another amazing feature we love in the P30 Pro is reverse wireless charging which was debuted on the Huawei Mate 20 Pro. This allows you to comfortably power other Qi wireless charging supported devices on the rear of the P30 Pro. Meanwhile, we’ve also seen this feature on the Galaxy S10 Series, and it’s a good thing Huawei is significantly adapting the latest technology trends.
Huawei P30 Pro: Price in Nigeria and Availability
The Huawei P30 Pro Price starts at ₦240,000 (about $630), thereby making it one of the costliest flagship devices just like the Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus. However, it’s slightly cheaper than the Apple iPhone XS Max which costs ₦340,000 (around $893).
The Huawei P30 Pro is widely available for purchase from major online and offline retailers in Nigeria. Unfortunately, it’s extremely difficult to get hold of the phone in the US because of the government’s restrictions on certain Chinese products.
