Huawei Y6 Review: Design and Display

Huawei Y6 Review: Design and Display

The Huawei Y6 features a very decent design everybody would love to have. It’s available in triple color variants of Midnight Black, Sapphire Blue, Amber Brown. The Sapphire Blue model includes reflective particles that diffract light to colorful effect, while the Midnight Black is relatively plain, and the Amber Brown features an anti-fingerprint faux leather which is considered the best among them.

Upfront, the Huawei Y6 looks great with a high screen-to-body ratio. Fortunately, there’s a minimal bezel at the chin and a tiny waterdrop notch on top. Of course, you won’t expect to have an official water-resistant rating here unless you can pay twice to get other Huawei handsets that offer similar feature.

At 6.09-inch, the Huawei Y6 has a resolution of 720 x 1560 pixels. This is slightly behind the 1080p resolution found on most mid-rangers, but it’s pretty good for the money. Fortunately, this is a pretty large display with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio and 87% screen-to-body ratio.

The Huawei Y6 features an LCD panel which isn’t as smooth as OLED screens, but that’s what you’ll expect at this price. However, the Huawei Y6 overall screen quality is more than enough for this price tag.

Huawei Y6 Camera Review

Huawei Y6: Camera Review

The Huawei Y6 features a single 13-MP camera on the back with an f/1.8 aperture. There’s no doubt Huawei has improved the low light shooting potential of this camera and to some extent, it’s better than its predecessor, but not up to our expectations.

However, if the lighting condition in the environment isn’t good, the Huawei Y6 camera will take decent photos that’ll be as good as low light shots on most mid-rangers. Fortunately, things seem to have improved much in better lighting. Photos are taken with enough details and are adequate enough to upload on social media.

Upfront is an 8-MP selfie camera that’s assisted by a front flash to lighten up photos. Similar to the rear camera, these are designed to improve low light conditions, but they aren’t special, although they’re good for the money.

Huawei Y6 Review: Hardware Performance and Software

Huawei Y6 Review: Hardware Performance and Software

Inside the phone is a quad-core MediaTek Helio A22 chip that’s clocked at 2GHz. Undoubtedly, this is one of the weakest parts of the Y6, especially being paired with just 2GB of RAM, which is the lowest we’ve seen on a phone of this price.

When it comes to storage, the Huawei Y6 has a single 32GB storage variant which is among the lowest you can find on a smartphone. However, there’s an SDcard slot where you can boost the inbuilt storage of the phone if the available one is not enough for you.

If you’re a heavy gamer, then you’ll have to shy away from this phone, but you can consider another better cheap option – the Huawei Honor 10 Lite.

The Android 9 (Pie) operating system paired with EMUI 9.1 gets the job done. Unlike many Huawei phones, the Y6 has access to Google Play Store. Also, it offers you a lot of customizable options including camera software, battery optimizer, and many others.

Huawei Y6 Review: Battery Capacity

The 3,020mAh battery cell in the Huawei Y6 is quite low, but given the average hardware it comes with, you can comfortably get 24-hours battery life. Undoubtedly, this is an average battery life which makes heavy users always connect the phone to a charger before nightfall.

Huawei Y6 Review: Price in Nigeria and Availability

The Huawei Y6 is a reasonable handset for a low cost starting at ₦55,000 (roughly $135). This is below the price of most phones with this kind of specs. You can comfortably buy the phone on jumia, jiji, or other reputable online and offline phone stores in Nigeria.
