Motorola Razr 5G: Foldable Phone Features, Specs, and Price in Nigeria

Motorola might not be a well-known company when it comes to foldable phones, but it’s arguably most known in the budget segment like Moto G9 Plus. However, we’re particularly impressed with its foldable design which sent us on a nostalgia trip to the flip phone era. The Motorola Razr 5G is a major competitor to Samsung Galaxy Z Flip. But that makes it one of the best foldable phones available in the market.

The 2019 Motorola Razer suffered from a few backslide including disappointing battery life, poor camera, and generally lacked all the flagship essentials you would expect from a $1500 phone. This is what prompted Motorola to go back to the drawing board and bring us a similar design but new Razr 5G.

We generally love everything about the Motorola Razr 5G, but it’s the internal changes that picked our interest most. These are changes that address many of the complaints fans had with the original, plus having the latest 5G connectivity. We’ve had the Razr 5G for a while now and are satisfied with the good impression of the phone thereby making it a major competitor to Samsung Galaxy Z Flip.

Motorola Razr 5G: Design and Aesthetics

Straight to the point, the original Razr doesn’t have a design that lived up to its flagship nature. We experienced difficulty while trying to open the phone with one hand and there’s a noticeable gap between the chassis and display as you fold or unfold the device. Also, the hinge always makes a faint creaking sound while trying to open the phone.

Fortunately, Motorola was able to tackle all these issues faced by the original Razr. The Motorola Razr 5G sports many visible improvements starting with the design and to the chin that’s no longer chunky like it uses to be but rather more tapered. This is made possible because the fingerprint scanner has been moved to the rear panel housing it under the “Motorola” logo. Interestingly, this is a definite improvement and the one we all longed to see.

The Motorola Razer 5G will have a teardrop folded display which allows both sides to perfectly flush when the phone is closed. Also, Motorola integrated a new hinge design that eliminates the gaps that bedeviled the original Razr. This also makes it easier to easily open the phone with one hand. In fact, the Motorola Razr 5G is here to correct the wrongs of the original foldable Razr.

When it comes to the durability of the hinge, Motorola reveals the hinge can survive up to 200,000 flips. Also, Motorola claims that the most active users opens their Razr 100 times a day (average of 40 opens). That’s to say, you’ll have folded and unfolded the new Razr for five years before reaching the limits of the hinge’s durability.

Fortunately, Motorola has published Gorilla Glass 5 protection on the front and rear panel of the phone with up to 7000 series aluminum around the frame to further improve the quality of the design. These are a massive improvement over the original Razr’s plastic construction. You can buy the Motorola Razr 5G on any of the Polished Graphite, Blush Gold, and Liquid Mercury color options.

Motorola Razr 5G: Processor Performance and Software

The Motorola Razr 5G has been upgraded from Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 to Snapdragon 765G chipset. That processor is paired with 8GB RAM to boost its performance. However, the most appealing addition of this chip is the included 5G network.

Also, the phone is equipped with four 5G antennas – two on the phone’s hinge side and another two on the base. Motorola deployed this motive to allow you to get a 5G signal notwithstanding how you’re holding the phone. Despite the absence of an SDcard slot, the Razr 5G is equipped with a massive 256GB in-built storage. This is more than enough to occupy your numerous files and data.

On the software side, the Motorola Razr runs on the stock Android 10 operating system. This gives you access to lots of amazing features the Android OS comes with including the ability to customize and tweak phone settings, apps, and many others.

Motorola Razr 5G: Battery Capacity

Battery life was a big blow to the original Razr and things don’t seem to have changed in this current Razr 5G. The phone’s 2800mAh battery capacity wasn’t the kind of upgrade we expected to receive. However, the Snapdragon 865G chipset will aid the phone’s power efficiency making it last longer after charge.

Motorola Razr 5G: Price in Nigeria and Availability

The Motorola Razr 5G is available now for purchase and you can buy the phone for ₦496,000 (roughly $1298) directly from Motorola. Also, you can purchase the phone from online stores like Amazon, T-Mobile, Verizon, and others.

The ₦496,000 ($1299) price of the Razr 5G is $100 less than what Samsung charged on Galaxy Z Flip 5G and $200 discount from the original Motorola Razr. However, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 remains the priciest foldable phone at ₦723,000 ($1900).
