Huawei like every other flagship brand always has something new to offer and this time around comes in the latest Huawei Nova 4. In many ways, the Nova 4 is a solid smartphone with great performance and quality. Meanwhile, there’s a better sibling known as Honor View 20 which is slightly above the Nova 4. By mere looking at the device, you’ll easily notice it has a similar design to its sibling from Huawei sub-brand ‘Honor’. However, this time around, the Huawei Nova 4 comes with a dot-hole display, but similar EMUI skin that’s built on top of Android 9 Pie.
Apart from the redesigned display and design, the Huawei Nova 4 retains the same processor and battery life that was found on the Nova 3 but comes with bigger RAM and a triple camera arrangement. Fortunately, it’s a very powerful mid-range device and will be a great addition to those who want higher-end specs at a cheap price.
We’ve been with the Nova 4 for a while and has brought out its specs including how it falls behind the View 20.

Huawei Nova 4 Review: Design and Display
There’s no doubt that Huawei has established itself as one of the best brands when it comes to design. Looking at the Nova 4, it’ll give you premium aesthetics and feeling with an all-glass back and curved edges that makes it sit comfortably on your palms. Fortunately, there’s a glossy metal around the body that added to the builty of the phone.
On the rear are the fingerprint sensor and the prominent camera bump which makes the phone struggle to rest when placed horizontally. As the normal problem with glass phones, the Huawei Nova 4 attracts fingerprints and smudges easily. However, Huawei included a cover on the box that prevents the phone from scratches.
Turning over to the display, you’ll find a 6.4-inch Full HD LCD that almost covers the entire front panel. There are tiny bezels on the sides, but a bit thick on the chin with well-rounded corners. Amazingly, this is a very broad display that’s great to view content on.
The only cutout on the display is where the selfie camera resides which is more preferable to the waterdrop notch. This won’t obstruct your view while watching videos on the entire display unless something important is going on in that specific corner of the screen. However, while gaming, the cutout might be in the position of important game controls which will make it difficult to use.
So far, the Huawei Nova 4 comes with a loving display, though it might not be as punchy as the panels on higher-tier smartphones but can very well level up against most other devices on this price segment.
Huawei Nova 4 Review: Cameras
Coming to the cameras, the Nova 4 has triple rear cameras with one upfront. The front sports a 25-MP selfie snapper which is on the left side that’s considered the best angle for camera placement. Also, there’s AI beautification which paves way for quick editing of the images to your desired taste.
The rear camera arrangement consists of a 48-MP primary shooter, 16-MP ultra-wide lens, and 2-MP depth sensor for bokeh photos. Fortunately, EMUI 9 interface features varieties of AI effects and recognition to further beautify the shots.
Results are great especially in good lighting conditions but struggles to take the best shots on lowlight conditions. However, Huawei equipped the phone with a Night mode feature that manages to capture a good amount of details with minimum noise.
Huawei Nova 4 Review: Hardware, Performance, and Software
Before now, the Huawei Nova 3 raised the bar on what mid-range phones can offer and Huawei continues with that innovation on the Nova 4. The phone comes with a Kirin 970 chip and is paired with either 6GB or 8GB of RAM.
As you’d expect, performance on the Nova 4 is super fast with apps running at a decent speed. Also, games run smoothly with no stutters. We comfortably played PUGB on the highest settings without experiencing any lags, thanks to GPU Turbo that helps to boost its performance. However, the phone does hit up a bit after long hours of gaming, but if you put the provided case on, then there’s nothing to worry about here.
You’ll find the bloatware-free EMUI 9 on top of Android 9 OS. There’s a lot of amazing features including Dark mode that’ll make smartphone operation easier. Also, they boost the performance of the phone and battery optimization, all in nearer settings.
Huawei Nova 4 Review: Battery Capacity
The Huawei Nova 4 packs in an average 3,750mAh battery cell that can comfortably last for a day on moderate use that involves gaming, surfing social media, and streaming videos. Unfortunately, there’s no wireless charging support but the device comes with an 18W fast charger that can comfortably power the phone within 3 hours.
