Apple Watch Series 8 – Price and Specs in Nigeria

The most recent model of the Apple Watch line, model number Series 8, became available on September 16, 2022. The Apple Watch Series 7 is replaced by the new design. Compared to the Series 6, the Apple Watch Series 7 was an iterative improvement that added a larger screen while maintaining largely the same functions.

With a temperature sensor that can measure your temperature every five seconds and a new crash detection capability, the Apple Watch Series 8 undoubtedly promises to make a greater advancement in that regard.

Design

There have been no design changes made to the Apple Watch Series 8. It maintains the same rounded, square appearance from earlier generations and is offered in size variations of 41mm and 45mm, which were debuted in 2021.

There are soft, rounded corners around the Apple Watch’s display, and weights range from 32 grammes to 51.5 grammes depending on casing size and material. The heaviest Apple Watch Series 8 models are made of stainless steel.

In order to support health-monitoring functions like heart rate monitoring, blood oxygen monitoring, and ECGs, all Apple Watch Series 8 models have a black ceramic and crystal back that includes four LED clusters and four photodiodes.

On the side of the Apple Watch, there is a Digital Crown for scrolling and navigating, as well as a Side Button for opening frequently used apps, calling emergency services, verifying Apple Pay transactions, and other things.

The Digital Crown is essential for the ECG app since it contains a built-in electrode that works in conjunction with the rear sensors. Along with this, the Apple Watch offers haptic feedback, which gives users a precise, mechanical feeling when they scroll through menus and control other functions.

Colours and Materials

Both aluminium and stainless steel are available for the Apple Watch Series 8. The most affordable Apple Watch models are made of aluminium, while the most expensive variants are made of stainless steel. Midnight, starlight, silver, and Red are some colours of aluminium. There are three shades of stainless steel: gold, graphite, and space black.

The aluminium Apple Watch versions are built from 100 percent recycled 7000 series aluminium, are lightweight, affordable, and designed for an active lifestyle, whereas the stainless steel models are heavier, more expensive, and designed for everyday wear rather than focusing on activity.

Durability

The front crystal on the Apple Watch Series 8 models is made of the same tougher material as the Series 7 model and is therefore more resistant to cracking. Ion-X glass is used to protect the display on Apple Watch models made of aluminium, whereas sapphire crystal glass is used on versions made of stainless steel and titanium.

Because sapphire crystal glass is a harder substance than Ion-X glass, it offers better scratch resistance. As a result, models with sapphire crystal models are more resistant to scratching and general wear.

All Apple Watch Series 8 models include WR50 water resistance, rated for immersion in water as deep as 50 metres, and IP6X dust protection for use in places like the beach or the desert.

The only port of entry is the speaker, which requires air to make sound and is built to expel water using sound vibrations when exposed to moisture.

The Apple Watch may be used when swimming in a pool or the ocean because it is waterproof to a depth of 50 metres. It cannot be used for activities involving deep immersion or high water velocity, such as scuba diving, water skiing, or showering. It is only appropriate for shallow water activities.

Battery Life

For the Apple Watch Series 8 models, Apple claims a “all-day” 18-hour battery life, which can be extended to up to 36 hours with a new Low Power Mode featured in watchOS 9.

Based on 90 time checks, 90 alerts, 45 minutes of app activity, and a 60-minute workout with Bluetooth music playback, Apple based its “all-day” battery life predictions.

Apple anticipates a 14-hour connection to an iPhone and a four-hour LTE connection for LTE devices. The Apple Watch will occasionally deplete more quickly, such as during phone calls or physical activity.

With an 18W or higher power adapter and Apple’s Magnetic Fast Charger USB-C Cable, the Apple Watch Series 8 may be quickly charged. Up to eight hours of sleep tracking can be obtained with just eight minutes of charging.

Connectivity

Two variations of the W3 chip, which Apple designed, are available in Apple Watch Series 8 models: GPS and GPS + Cellular. While GPS variants are Wi-Fi exclusive, GPS + Cellular devices contain an integrated LTE chip and can connect to LTE without an iPhone.

Since the Apple Watch Series 3, LTE connectivity has been a feature. With an LTE connection, the Apple Watch is no longer bound to the iPhone and can access the internet without a known Wi-Fi network or an iPhone.

WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS

The Apple Watch Series 8 is compatible with Bluetooth 5.0, 802.11b/g/n at 2.4GHz and 5GHz, and Wi-Fi. Bluetooth 5.0 provides greater interoperability with other wireless technologies, a greater broadcast message capacity, faster speeds, and a longer range than Bluetooth 4.2.

All Series 8 models, LTE and non-LTE, have a GPS chip that enables the Apple Watch to determine its location without being close to an iPhone. GPS has been a part of the Apple Watch since the Series 2 model.

When you’re bicycling, walking, running, hiking, or using a GPS-enabled device, the Apple Watch can track your pace, distance, and route, giving you more information about your fitness activities. Numerous nations support the positioning technologies of GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, and QZSS.

Health Features

The third-generation optical heart rate sensor in the Apple Watch Series 8 calculates metrics such as calorie burn, resting heart rate, and an abnormally high heart rate.

The electrical heart rate sensor can be used to take electrocardiograms, and blood oxygen monitoring is made possible by LEDs and infrared light. Other significant health-related features, such fall detection, are made possible via an integrated accelerometer and gyroscope.

The Apple Watch has the ability to recognise low, high, and irregular heart rates. It can also monitor for conditions like atrial fibrillation and alert users when anomalies are found.
