Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 Review and Price

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, companies are now launching affordable devices that’ll suit the budget of the public. Xiaomi has launched series of smartphones in the budget segment this year, and the Redmi Note 10 is one of them. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 is the base model of Xiaomi’s Note 10 series and comes along with a bigger Redmi Note 10 Pro and Redmi Note 10 Pro Max models which sport many improved features.

The Redmi Note 10 is not the best phone when it comes to performance, but rather offers great value for a phone of this price. You’re getting an AMOLED display with a 60Hz refresh rate. Also, there’s a 48-MP main camera, Snapdragon 678 chipset, 5000mAh battery capacity, and the latest Android 11 operating system.

There’s no doubt that Xiaomi has come to take over the market by offering premium features at affordable prices. We’ve had the Redmi Note 10 for a while now and brought out the full review, features, and latest price in Nigeria.

The Redmi Note 10 despite its large battery size manages to fit into your palm comfortably. Fortunately, the Redmi Note 10 is an IP53 rated device, meaning it’s dustproof and can survive water splashes. There’s a metallic frame with a glass-like glossy finish that is prone to fingerprints and smudges. This means you have to rely on the provided silicone case for the phone’s rear panel to remain neat.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 comes in nice colors of Shadow Black, Aqua Green, and Frost White. The phone has a premium feel with lots of quality that it’ll be hard to guess the value segment the device plays in. There’s a protruding camera module on the top left corner that houses the rear quad cameras that are similar to the one on Redmi Note 10 Pro.

On the right is the power button which double functions as the fingerprint scanner, along with the volume rocker. We have a triple tray for the dual nano-SIM cards and a microSD card on the left. Up top are a secondary microphone, IR blaster, and loudspeaker, while underneath is where the 3.5mm headphone jack, USB-C port, and loudspeaker are located.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 is a slippery but light device, measuring 160.5 x 74.5 x 8.3 mm in dimensions with 178.8g weight.

The Redmi Note 10 comes with 6.47-inch FHD+ (1080 × 2400p) AMOLED dot-display with thin bezels surrounding it. As for protection, the screen is covered with Gorilla Glass 3. Unfortunately, there’s no screen protector in the box, meaning you’ll have to purchase it separately.

On the display settings, you can choose between Auto mode, Saturated, and Standard modes, including an option to adjust the white balance and color temperature. Undoubtedly, this is one of the best phones when it comes to display and it comes with enough vibrant colors, deep blacks, great contrast, and equally bright enough for outdoor use.

The 60Hz refresh rate will make scrolling through photos, checking your different social media feeds, swiping around the home screen quite smooth, but not compared to the 120Hz on Redmi Note 10 Pro.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 has a rear quad camera set-up consisting of a 48-MP primary shooter, along with an 8-MP ultra-wide sensor, 2-MP macro lens, and another 2-MP depth sensor. There’s a 13-MP front camera that handles selfie photos.

The Redmi Note 10 Pro rear cameras performed above our expectations with images being shot with a lot of details and are quite sharp. The ultra-wide sensor performs great too with enough edge distortion and details.

Meanwhile, when it comes to portrait shots, the depth sensor does a decent job by separating the subject and blurring the background, but it’s not as perfect as the one on Redmi Note 10 Pro. Also, the macro lens does great as it’s expected of a phone of this price. For low light photos, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 performs above our expectations. Undoubtedly, this is one of the best phones you’ll find at this price when it comes to camera.

For videos, you can shoot 4k videos at 30 frames per second (fps). Fortunately, the video quality is good, with enough details and color reproduction, but there’s an absence of optical stabilization, meaning you’ll need the services of a tripod if you want to get steady videos.

Hardware Performance and Software

Powering the Redmi Note 10 is a Snapdragon 678 chipset, along with Adreno 612 as the GPU. There are dual and built-in storage units of 4GB /6GB and 64GB /128GB respectively. Unlike most phones, you’re getting a dedicated SDcard slot. There’s 108GB of usable storage in the 128GB variant.

When it comes to performance, the Redmi Note 10 is an excellent device for multitasking, gaming, and switching through apps while having multiple ones open in the background. The phone doesn’t heat up during intensive gaming sessions, meaning you can play high-end games like Asphalt 9, Call of Duty, God of War, and others comfortably. However, you’ll notice occasional frame drops while gaming, but you can trigger the game optimizer if you want the best gaming performance.

For its operating system, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 runs on the latest Android 11 with MIUI 12 overlay. The device comes with lots of pre-installed apps like Mi Remote, YouTube, Gmail, Google Drive, Photos, Amazon Shopping, and many others. There’s a dedicated dark mode that you can trigger in the settings.
